It’s no secret that Diljit Dosanjh moons over Kylie Jenner and Kareena Kapoor Khan. Proving how enamoured he is by the two ladies, the Punjabi star has just dropped a single, Kylie+Kareena. But the bigger news has been a video clip shared by Diljit, in which Kareena has thanked her Good News co-star, and pointed out how the shy guy barely ever talks. During our chat, the musician-actor sheepishly says, “Everyone knows Kylie, ab main kya bataun? Kareena is one of my favourites, too.” Though a smoky hot model slithers in the video, for Diljit, it’s K+K’s achievements that’s appealing. “They are both successful because of their hard work. So, I just decided to make a song on them,” he states.

Working with Kareena and Akshay

The Soorma actor created the track in January this year but didn’t spill the beans about it to Kareena when they were filming Good News. It was only on the last day of the shoot that he told his Udta Punjab co-star about the number. “She wanted to listen to it but I didn’t have it on me at that time, and she heard it in March, before its release. Yeh toh unka badappan hai ki unhone video record kiya,” he says.

We ask him if working for the second time with her as well as this video was an icebreaker and if he will be friendlier with her hereon, and he points out, “That may never happen. I have a lot of respect for her and can never have frivolous chatter with her. I think twice before speaking to her so that I don’t end up saying something offensive.”

As for his other co-actor in the movie, Akshay Kumar, the Ikk Kudi singer says that working with him was a great learning experience. “Just with this one project, I learnt so much that I wish I worked with him five years ago. My journey till here would have been something else.” AK’s daily routine, punctuality, deftness as well as dedication apart from acting were inspirational for the Punjabi star. “He’s also very friendly and always laughing,” he adds. Other than Good News, Diljit also looks forward to the release of Arjun Patiala opposite Kriti Sanon. He says nonchalantly about having two releases in quick succession, “It will be great if the audience likes the movies. If they don’t, I will work harder.”

Staying true to his roots

Diljit has sung a track in Good News and regularly releases Punjabi numbers. No matter what kind of success he finds in pop music, he will always continue to create stuff in his mother tongue. “Kylie+Kareena had easy lyrics that find an appeal across India. But I keep making compositions with hardcore Punjabi lyrics for my fans in the region, who have made me what I am, so that they don’t feel abandoned,” he reasons. He started his journey by singing at Gurudwaras and has ensured to stay true to his roots. “Whenever I get free time, I listen to Gurbani. There are a number of shabads in my playlist that I keep listening to. I used to play the tabla and that’s one thing I haven’t had the time to do in ages,” he tells us. Diljit signs off saying, “I haven’t lost touch with my roots. These are stages of life that you keep crossing and moving on.”
