Riteish Deshmukh has hosted many shows. Hindi as well as Marathi shows, and even award dos. The actor has a brilliant comic timeout and an easy connect with the audience. His last outing as a host — Yaaron Ki Baraat — was with buddy Sajid Khan. He says, “I think it was good fun. I had not done something like that before.”

With a friend

Riteish says the show needed two friends, “YKB was about two friends calling their friends over. It was all about friendship and playing games. We had personal relationships or different experiences with almost all the actors.

Either Sajid had a story or I did. The banter between us was there because we know each other really well. He can ask me to shut up anytime and I can do the same. That’s okay because we are friends and we understand each other. It’s important that friends host it rather than strangers who are trying to understand the guests.” And is season two in the offing? “That depends on the channel,” he says.

Once more?

Since the actor has an easy connect with the audience, will he take more hosting assignments? “I don’t know. If something interesting comes, then yes. But there has to be something new to offer. It cannot be a me-too situation, right? There has to be some edge to it. If that happens, why not?” he says.
