'He must have gone with a gentle smile': Amitabh Bachchan remembers Rishi Kapoor's 'Joie de vivre'

Amitabh Bachchan was the first person to announce that Rishi Kapoor was no more. On April 30, 2020, the veteran actor died after two-year fight with leukemia (a form of cancer) and many tributes started to pour in for 'Chintu' Kapoor. One such tribute was from Amitabh Bachchan.

Bachchan took to his blog and described his first meeting with Rishi Kapoor. He said that during his visit to Raj Kapoor's Deonar Cottage in Chembur, he noticed a young energetic, bubbly , mischief in his eyes Chintu. Big B then went on to descirbe how he saw 'a diligent enthusiastic youngster, ready to pounce onto every learning that came his way' when he noticed Rishi Kapoor in RK Studios during the the late actor's training for his debut film as a full-fledged actor, 'Bobby'.

Amitabh Bachchan went on to descibe Rishi Kapoor's walk. Senior Bachchan compared Rishi Kapoor's 'confident and determined' walk to grandfather Prithviraj Kapoor's walk which the megastar noticed in one of Prithviraj's films. Further describing Rishi Kapoor as an actor, Amitabh Bachchan said that the genuineness in Rishi's dialogue delivery was beyond question. He also noticed that nobody could lip sync any song as perfectly as Chintu.

For the uninitiated, a family statement after Rishi Kapoor's demise stated that the actor made his daughter laugh till his last. Narrating a similar incident, Amitabh Bachchan shared, "His playful attitude on set was infectious .. even in the most grave sequences he would discover that comedic spark and we would all just crack up  .. !!," adding, "Not just on set .. if you were with him at any formal event , he would find that little distractive light hearted gem to expand on and lighten the situation .."

Big B further revealed that Rishi would play cards during his spare time. If not cards, the megastar said Kapoor would 'pull out his rather complicated Bagatelle board and invite others to play .. a competition .. not just for fun .. a serious competition ..'

Talking about dealing with cancer, Amitabh Bachchan shared that Rishi Kapoor never made it obvious that he was going through something. "It was always .. ‘see you soon , just a routine visit to the Hospital .. I’ll be back shortly," penned Amitabh Bachchan.

Terming his quality as 'Joie de vivre' aka the exuberant enjoyment of life, Amitabh Bachchan said Rishi Kapoor picked it up from father and 'the ultimate showman' Raj Kapoor. Bachchan ended his note by stating that he never visited Rishi in hospital because he 'never wanted to see distress on his smiling cherubic face  ..' "But I am certain .. when he went , he must have gone with a gentle smile …," penned Amitabh Bachchan. Sharing the news of Rishi Kapoor's demise, Amitabh Bachchan had tweeted, "T 3517 - He's GONE .. ! Rishi Kapoor .. gone .. just passed away .. I am destroyed !"
