Veteran Bollywood actor Gulshan Grover, who has successfully traversed to the West as well, has added another feather to his international cap. His American short film, Forbidden, based on honour killing had its world premiere at Julien Dubuque International Film Festival, followed by New York International Film Festival where it was screened to packed houses.

Gulshan plays the lead character called Papaji, a Sikh man who kills his own daughter because she falls in love with a Muslim lad. While his character is hated, the actor’s emotional conflict in his performance has been applauded by critics and audiences alike at the festival circuit.

Over the last weekend, it was screened at the International Film Festival of South Asia in Toronto, where the audience demanded more special screenings of the short. At the screening in Brompton, where a huge number of Sikhs and Punjabis live, the short received a standing ovation as a mark of them condemning honour killings.
