The Independence day holiday proved beneficial for both Bollywood releases, with Akshay Kumar's 'Gold' and John Abraham's 'Satyameva Jayate' together bringing in approximately Rs 45 crore in net domestic box office collections.

While Akshay's sports biopic raked in Rs 25.25 crore on day 1 with 3,050 screens, John's action-drama registered Rs 20.52 crore with 2,500 screens, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh. 

"The big holiday [IndependenceDay] results in big numbers at the Box office. Both, Gold and SatyamevaJayate have terrific Day 1. Both, Akshay and John record their highest *Day 1* business. The combined total is approx ₹ 45 cr [+/-], which is humungous.Yes, Box Office is on fire," tweeted Taran Adarsh.

Joining 'Sanju', 'Race 3' and 'Baaghi 2'; 'Gold' and 'Satyameva Jayate' have now found their way to the top 5 box office openers of 2018 list. 

With an amazing first day occupancy of 52.5%, 'Gold' has emerged as the third highest opener of 2018 so far while 'Satyameva Jayate' has bagged the fifth rank in the list with 42.5% occupancy. 

Trade analysts had predicted a good opening for both films but 'Gold' took the lead in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, East Punjab and Mumbai. The prospects for both films are positive given the long extended weekend ahead, with Independence Day followed by the Parsi New Year on Friday.
