With the Doorbeen’s latest single, Prada, Alia Bhatt made her debut in non-film music videos. And with that, she has joined the ranks of many of her Bollywood colleagues, who have featured in tracks by recording artistes or even film composers releasing private tracks.

Indipop of the ’90s was a hot time for music videos. Biggies like John Abraham (Chup Chupke), Shahid Kapoor (Aryans’ Anakhon Mein), Vidya Balan (Euphoria’s Kabhi Aana Tu Meri Gali), Bipasha Basu (Sonu Nigam’s Tu) and later Deepika Padukone (Himesh Reshammiya’s Naam Hai Tera Tera) all featured in them before they entered films. Cut to today, established actors have been upping the glam quotient by making an appearance in them — from dance to romantic and even hip-hop numbers.

The newest girl to join the bandwagon is Alia, who can be seen in Lamberghini hitmakers the Doorbeen’s club banger Prada, in which she has also shaken a leg in chic and sexy avatars. Even her Dear Zindagi co-star, Shah Rukh Khan couldn’t resist the charm of starring in a non-film ditty. For him, it was none other than one of the hottest DJs and music producers Marshmello’s Biba, which was a collaboration with Pritam and Shirley Setia. Not only did it feature the actor but also had a recreation of iconic songs like Tujhe Dekha (Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge), Yeh Ladka Hai Deewana (Kuch Kuch Hota Hai) and many more.

Dheere Dheere Se is an iconic number from Aashiqui (1990) and its recreation for the non-film space was not left behind. Yo Yo Honey Singh’s beats of the Punjabi-Hindi song had none other than Hrithik Roshan falling for Sonam K Ahuja. It was an almost new track with only the hook line from the movie. This wasn’t the only music video that starred Sonam. She was also seen in UK’s iconic pop-rock band Coldplay’s Hymn for the Weekend, alongside Beyoncé, the video for which was also shot in India. This was also not the only time that a star featured in the artiste’s video. Sonakshi Sinha has made an appearance in a hip-hop avatar in Desi Kalakaar, as well. Needless to say, the actress completely looked the part.

Other than Sona, Richa Chadha has also explored the hip-hop genre. She featured in Dr Zeus’ Gwandiyan Da Dhol with her Fukrey Returns co-star and pal Varun Sharma. Incidentally, the actress also made her singing debut with this track. And this wasn’t her only outing. The Masaan star also did Shibani Kashyap’s Wanna Be Free, which encourages people to free themselves from the shackles of mobile phone and social media. Richa rode a bike for it, too!

One of the hottest on-screen couples, and rumouredly off it too, Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani have starred together in Meet Brothers’ Befikra. Unsurprisingly, the video has been viewed over 34 million times by now. The Baaghi 2 co-actors did the video when they were still newbies. The actor has also collaborated with composer Amaal Mallik’s for his single, Zindagi Aa Raha Hoon Main and worked with Kriti Sanon in Chal Wahan Jaate Hain after Heropanti.

After Alia, let’s see if more Bollywood celebs will follow suit.
