From 'Pad Man' to doing 'Housefull 4', Akshay Kumar doesn’t want to be typecast

After impressing the audience and critics alike with his last cinematic outing Pad Man, Akshay Kumar says he is yearning to work on an out-and-out comedy. The actor is all set to tickle our funny bones in Housefull 4, which is expected to go on floors by this year end.

Revealing that comedy is genre that he really enjoys working in, he said revealed to Mid-Day that he is looking forward to Housefull 4. "Housefull 4 is going to be like a three-month vacation. For me, it's like a reunion of old friends.", he added. The fourth instalment of the comedy franchise directed by Sajid Khan will reunite Akshay with Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan. 

Meanwhile, one look at Akshay’s filmography is enough proof that the actor likes to tap different genres. From doing a comedy like Housefull 3 (2016) to a film like Airlift (2016) or an action-flick like Gabbar Is Back (2015), Akshay reveals that his choice of films is perhaps a conscious decision. "I don't want the media to typecast me. Earlier, I was trapped with the image of an action hero. I couldn't experiment as they [the audience] wouldn't accept me in a different avatar. That phase of my career impacted me deeply. That's why I constantly change the kind of films I do," he adds.

However, Akshay feels that he has not been completely successful in removing the stigma surrounding menstruation with his last film, Pad Man. "There is a section of the audience, in places like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, who are hesitating to go for the movie. I noticed that men are not allowing their wives to watch it. I want to break that with the film."

Meanwhile, on the work front, Akshay is currently shooting 1897 war drama, Kesari alongside Parineeti Chopra. Apart from Kesari, the actor also has Rajinikanth-starrer sci-fi flick 2.0 and Reema Kagti's Gold in the pipeline.
