'Jab Harry Met Sejal' lyricist Irshad Kamil to present his poetry on the digital platform

Irshad Kamil’s last release as a lyricist, Jab Harry Met Sejal, was appreciated for its songs. Whether it was the upbeat Radha or the soulful Hawaayein, his words worked their charm. Add to that, the pleasure of working with his longtime-collaborator, director Imtiaz Ali, that led to the songs being big hits. Ask him if he feels an added pressure because people expect a lot from their jodi, Irshad says that on the contrary, when he works with Imtiaz, the pressure eases off. “Anyway, I never take pressure. Neither do I take pressure of the director or the actor. I only think about the character. I have to justify the character and the story through my songs.” he says. With Imtiaz, he finds that he can be honest as he shares a comfort level with him.

Apart from penning lyrics for movies, Irshad is also geared to take his non-filmi poetry to the digital platform. “There are a lot of songs, where the element of poetry is heightened. But they don’t always find their way in commercial films and in the process, they get left behind. So now, I’m planning to put them up online. It’s a great platform to connect to the youth as well,” feels the wordsmith, who also has a poetry band of his own.
