Last year, Sara Ali Khan signed her second film (Simmba) much before her debut movie (Kedarnath) released. Similarly, Karan Johar’s protégée Tara Sutaria bagged her next project (Marjaavaan), even as Student Of The Year 2 is being readied for a May release. Now, Ananya Panday has followed suit.

Reveals a source, “Ananya has been signed on for the Pati Patni Aur Woh remake, which is being produced by Juno Chopra. She will essay the role that was portrayed by Ranjeeta Kaur in the original. The idea is to make it a modern version of the classic with a young cast. The makers wanted someone cute as well as glamorous for the part and she fit the bill. When the script was narrated to her, she was in splits and gave bulk dates, almost immediately.” The banner also plans to get a top actress on board for the wife’s role, which was essayed by Vidya Sinha in the 1978 film.

Ananya will romance Kartik Aaryan, who reprises Sanjeev Kumar’s role from the original. Our informer adds, “He was the top contender for the male lead as he’s popular with the youth today. The makers wanted a hero, who has a boy-next-door vibe and is also great with comedy, since it’s a humorous take on extra-marital affairs. So, the Sonu Ke Titu Ke Sweety actor was their first choice. Kartik and Ananya have already done a few readings together.”

Just like Ittefaq, the Bareilly Ki Barfi co-producer has called for alterations in this remake, too. Our source says, “Director Mudassar Aziz and Juno made some modifications to the script to suit the contemporary times. They have also decided to change the climax.” The film goes on floors next month.
