Did you know Urmila Matondkar wore THIS actor's ganjee in the song 'Tanha Tanha' from 'Rangeela'?

Actress-turned-politician Urmila Matondkar recently revealed that in her hit film 'Rangeela' she wore Jackie Shroff's ganjee in the famous track 'Tanha Tanha' that won her much appreciation and many accolades. In the song, Urmila Matondkar was seen running along a beach and grooving to the track while sporting a white ganjee.

On Zee Comedy Show, Urmila said, "No one knows, but I had worn Jackie Shroff's ganjee in Rangeela for the Tanha Tanha song and to be honest, it was fun. The sequence had to be unique and refreshing and we were told not to do things after thinking and researching." "We wanted to be natural and while we were being briefed about costumes, Jackie being Jackie, told me to wear his ganjee. I was slightly apprehensive, but I went ahead with it and left everything in God's hands. I obviously got a lot of appreciation and love, so it ended well for me," she added. 

The picturisation of the song and the 'costume' used in it has also been previously spoken about by the film's director Ram Gopal Verma who in an interview with Film Companion had revealed that he had disapproved of the original costume that was picked for Urmila for the song. He had also mentioned that Jackie Shroff had offered his ganjee. "On location, I said I need something and this (the present outfit) was not working, what she was wearing. 'Arre mera T-shirt pehnle na Bhidu,' or something like that he said and he took off his T-shirt and gave it to Urmila. That costume design credit goes to Jackie," RGV said. 

For the unversed, the hit song 'Tanha Tanha Yahan Pe Jeena', picturised on Urmila Matondkar was a rage back in the day. The actress rose to new heights of popularity and became one of the sought after heroines of her times after the film's release. The music in the film was composed by AR Rahman. 

Meanwhile, in an episode of 'Dance Deewane 3' where Urmila had appeared as a guest judge, the actress revealed that impressed by Aamir Khan's performance in 'Rangeela', she had written him a fan letter. She said, "Very few people know that when I was dubbing for Rangeela, I watched Aamir's performance and I was stunned. I wrote him a letter in which I wrote, 'You'll get many letters after this performance and you'll get awards as well. But this will be the first fan letter you'll get'."

Currently, Urmila Matondkar is a member of the Shiv Sena, a political party she had joined last December.
