The makers of De De Pyaar De had a surprise planned for all the Ajay Devgn fans as they unveiled the trailer of the film on the occasion of his 50th birthday on Tuesday. But little did they know that soon after they'd release the trailer, they'll be slammed left, right and centre for casting veteran sanskaari actor Alok Nath, who has been called out in the #MeToo movement for alleged rape.

Though, the trailer of De De Pyaar De which also stars Tabu and Rakul Preet Singh along with Ajay Devgn, has been gathering quite an impressive response, a number of Twitterati got enraged when they saw #MeToo accused Alok Nath as one of the primary cast members, playing Ajay's on screen father in the film. The official Twitter account of #MeTooIndia expressed their disappointment and anger over the casting of Alok Nath in the film, in a series of tweets.

The tweets read:

"While women continue to be disbelieved, ridiculed and shoved back into silence, men accused of sexual violence continue to find work. @ajaydevgn @itsBhushanKumar I hope you know Alok Nath has been accused of rape and an FIR filed. Disgusting that he’s part of De De Pyar De."

"When it came to casting someone for that role, what made it absolutely necessary to pick a man accused of violence and harassment by multiple women? Is it a message that says you don’t care? What will it take for artists to stand up in support of women who call out predators?"

Soon after that, a number of denizens on the micro blogging site started slamming the makers and Ajay Devgn for casting sexual harassment accused veteran actor in the film.

Check out some of the reactions here:

At the trailer launch event of the film, Ajay Devgn was asked to comment on the casting of Alok Nath especially because he was also expelled from CINTAA. Ajay dodged the question saying, "This is not the right place to talk about it" adding that the film's shooting was already complete before the allegations against Alok Nath surfaced.

On the work front, Ajay Devgn is currently shooting for Tanhaji: The Unsung warrior. The actor was last seen in Total Dhamaal which has emerged as a superhit at the box office after crossing the coveted Rs 100 crore mark.
