Five of Chetan Bhagat’s books have been adapted into films. Three of them — Five Point Someone (3 Idiots), The 3 Mistakes Of My Life (Kai Po Che!) and 2 States — were successes at the box office. Half Girlfriend did average business while One Night @ The Call Center (Hello) sank without a trace. A few years ago, there were reports about Chetan’s Revolution 2020 being adapted for the big screen, too. But the plan was on hold then. Now, the author has apparently approached a few top producers to invest in a film based on the 2011 novel.

However, according to our sources, he’s facing a huge roadblock. “Revolution 2020 didn’t get much appreciation from the readers. So, there are very few takers for the film. Top banners aren’t interested in making it,” reveals our khabri. Moreover, the author’s demands have worsened the situation for him. The source adds, “He has been asking for at least Rs 5 crore for the rights to his book. He had met Sajid Nadiadwala, too, who was shocked to hear the amount. Nobody is willing to pay that much.”  

Chetan stated, “I’m working on a new book now, so I’m taking a pause from movies for a bit. But I’m in talks with someone to make Revolution 2020.”

Ask him about charging a whopper for the same and he quips, “I take a co-producer’s share so the amount that is being quoted is incorrect. My compensation is linked to the film’s performance. Also, for the right director and production house, I won’t let price be an issue. It’s about being choosy, not pricey.”
