Bhagyashree recollects being nervous about hugging Salman Khan while shooting for ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’

On the Zee Comedy Show, actress Bhagyashree confessed why she was uncomfortable doing kissing and hugging scenes when filming her 1989 film 'Maine Pyar Kiya', in which she starred alongside Salman Khan.


This weekend, she appears as a special guest on the show. Following the comic act by Sugandha Mishra Bhosle, Sanket Bhosale, and Siddharth Sagar based on ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’, Bhagyashree went down memory lane to reminisce an uneasy moment she had while filming the movie.

The actress said: "I was just 18 years old and though I was in love at that time and going to get married, I had never even hugged a guy till then. I got worried, and started crying after hearing that I will have to hug Salman during a song sequence in `Maine Pyar Kiya`. After half an hour, Salman came up to me and innocently requested me saying `Please do it.` I couldn`t say no."

Another scene in the film required Salman and Bhagyashree to kiss each other. The sequence was shot with a glass between them due to the latter's nervousness.

Recalling the scene, Bhagyashree said: "I was about to get married, so I wasn`t so comfortable doing a kissing scene back then. Sooraj sir (Barjatya, director) came up with an idea of having a glass in between us and the kiss would be showcased through that. That`s how they changed the sequence."

‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ is a 1989 Hindi-language romantic musical film directed by Sooraj Barjatya, produced by Tarachand Barjatya, co-written by S. M. Ahale and Sooraj Barjatya, and distributed by Rajshri Productions. Salman Khan played the major part, with Bhagyashree making her acting debut, while supporting roles were played by Alok Nath, Mohnish Bahl, Reema Lagoo, Rajeev Verma, Ajit Vachani, and Laxmikant Berde. Maine Pyar Kiya narrates the narrative of two people and follows their path from friendship to love, but they must overcome family obstacles in order to be together.
