Make-up artist Clint Fernandes shares, "All our maids used to wear top knots back in the day. (laughs). Now it's gone completely mainstream and also high fashion - from Gigi Hadid to Kendall Jenner- instagram is full of topknot looks. And why not? It's practical and also slims the face. I'd suggest keep a bit of the back open to make it of-the-moment. It's an Indian element and adds to the height besides it's cool and practical at the same time. Alia looks nice with her top knots which flatters her face. Both Deepika Padukone and Anushka Sharma have round-ish face and the top knot gives them a sharper look."

Designer Arpita Mehta seconds that. "Top knot is a fully comfort driven trend and celebs get clicked at every hour - whether they are at the gym or at a restaurant," says she.

Tips to it them cool...

Clint adds, "For evening, keep it sleek and clean, use a gel, hairspray. For a messy look, use a spray, a texturiser from L'Oreal or a dry shampoo and work them into the hair. Use only the finger and then do a high ponytail. Post that do a knot right on the top and twist the hair round.
