Alia Bhatt unveils new 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' poster with release date

Sanjay Leela Bhansali celebrates his birthday on February 24. On the occasion of the same, the teaser of his upcoming directorial Gangubai Kathiawadi is set to be unveiled. Ahead of that, Alia Bhatt, who plays the titular role in the film shared a new and intriguing poster. In the photo, the actor is seen in green ethnic attire with long braided hair and a veil placed on her head. She is seen keeping her legs on a chair and giving an intense look with a minimal smile.

With the poster, Alia also announced the release date of Gangubai Kathiawadi which is July 30, 2021. The actor wrote, "In cinemas 30th July 2021. @Bhansaliproductions @jayantilalgadaofficial @penmovies @prerna_singh6."

Gangubai Kathiawadi marks SLB's 10th directorial and the makers announced it as "Fiery and feisty, she's ready to reign! Celebrating the man, his vision and 10th directorial, #GangubaiKathiawadi. Teaser out today. In cinemas on 30th July 2021."

The film is based on the book by Hussain Zaidi titled Mafia Queens of Mumbai. In the film, Alia will be seen in a never seen before avatar as a brother owner and a matriarch.

For Gangubai Kathiawadi, Alia left no stone unturned in getting into the skin of her character. She learnt Hindi and Marathi cuss words too.

The actor has been shooting for the film back-to-back before the coronavirus lockdown and amid the new normal. The film was set to release in September 2020 but got postponed due to the pandemic.

This is Alia's first outing with Bhansali.
