Akshay Kumar’s ‘Gold’ has achieved unique milestone. The movie has become the first Bollywood film ever to release in Saudi Arabia.

Directed by Reema Kagti, the sports film is only the second movie after Rajinikanth's hit social drama, "Kaala" to hit the theatres in the Gulf country.

The Bollywood Superstar took to Twitter to share the news.

"The story of India's first Gold medal victory for the first time in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Happy to share, #Gold is the first ever Bollywood movie to release in the Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia, in cinemas from today! @excelmovies @ZeeStudiosInt," he wrote.

 

"Gold" is the fictional re-telling of the India's iconic win at the 1948 London Olympics. 

Also featuring Mouni Roy, Amit Sadh, Kunal Kapoor and Vineet Kumar Singh, the film released on August 15. 

In May, Saudi Arabia held a private screening of international cultural phenomenon, "Black Panther" to herald the launch of movie theatres, open to the public, in the kingdom.

The movie has been a money-spinner minting cool Rs 100 crore. The movie crossed the Rs 100 crore mark on its 13th day to become the Akshay Kumar’s ninth film to enter the coveted club.

The film, which hit the theatres on the Independence Day, has earned a whopping Rs 100.45 crore.

Film critic Taran Adarsh shared the news on the micro-blogging site. In a Twitter announcement, Adarsh wrote, "#Gold crosses Rs. 100 cr mark on Day 13... [Week 2] Fri 1.85 cr, Sat 3.10 cr, Sun 4.75 cr, Mon 1.45 cr. Total: Rs. 100.45 cr. India biz... Akshay Kumar's ninth film in Rs. 100 cr Club."

In the flick, the Pad Man star plays the role of Tapan Das, a character which is based on the man who led India to win gold at the 1948 London Olympics.

Kumar’s other Rs 100-crore movies are Housefull 2 (2012), Rowdy Rathore (2012),  Holiday – A Soldier Is Never Off Duty (2014), Airlift (2016), Housefull 3 (2016), Rustom (2016), Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017).
