In an interview earlier this year, Akshay had revealed that the poor box office performance of his films in the 1990s pushed him to apply for Canadian citizenship. Speaking to Aaj Tak, he said, "I thought that 'bhai, my films are not working and one has to work'. I went there for work. My friend was in Canada and he said, 'come here'. I applied and I got in. I had just two films left for release and it is just luck that they both became super hits."

Meanwhile, Akshay's latest release OMG 2 has received extremely positive reviews and is performing well, despite its clash with Sunny Deol's action-packed drama Gadar 2 wreaking havoc at the box office. Headlined by Pankaj Tripathi as Lord Shiva devotee and starring Akshay in an extended cameo appearance as Lord Shiva's messenger, OMG 2 has earned Rs 50 crore in India within four days. The film stresses upon the importance of sex education in Indian schools. READ | Akshay Kumar reveals why he opted for Canadian citizenship, says he has applied to get his passport changed
