Due to the coronavirus pandemic, only a few films released on the big screens as theatres were open only from January to mid-March in 2020.
At the start of 2020, movie lovers were excited for the lineup of films which were slated to release this year. Unfortunately, they could only enjoy it till mid-March as due to the coronavirus lockdown theatres were immediately shut. In those three months, only a few films made it to the big screen. While many filmmakers opted to release their movies on OTT platforms after the coronavirus lockdown was announced.
From January to mid-March 2020, fans got to watch a few films by leading Bollywood stars on the big screen. Movies namely Chhapaak, Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, Panga, Street Dancer 3D, Jawaani Jaaneman, Malang, Shikara, Love Aaj Kal, Bhoot – Part One: The Haunted Ship, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan, Thappad, Baaghi 3, Kaamyaab and Angrezi Medium were among the releases of 2020 in the first quarter.
Now after lockdown is being lifted step-by-step by the government, Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari became the first Bollywood film to release on the big screen followed by Indoo Ki Jawani.

1. 'Angrezi Medium'
)
Irrfan Khan's last theatrical release before his death was Angrezi Medium. Sadly, this was the last film to be released on the big screen before the coronavirus lockdown was announced.
Angrezi Medium directed by Homi Adajania released on March 13, 2020, just for a few days. The film also starred Kareena Kapoor Khan, Radhika Madan, Deepak Dobriyal and Ranvir Shorey in pivotal roles.
2. 'Baaghi 3'

Ahmed Khan directorial Baaghi 3 is the third instalment in the Baaghi franchise headlined by Tiger Shroff. The film also marked his reunion with Shraddha Kapoor after Baaghi. The action-packed film released on March 6, 2020, also starred Riteish Deshmukh and Ankita Lokhande in pivotal roles.
3. 'Bhoot – Part One: The Haunted Ship'

Vicky Kaushal starrer horror flick Bhoot – Part One: The Haunted Ship released on February 21, 2020, and was directed by Bhanu Pratap Singh. The film also had Bhumi Pednekar in a special appearance.
4. 'Chhapaak'

Deepika Padukone's hard-hitting film Chhapaak was among the first releases of 2020. The movie directed by Meghna Gulzar had the actor playing the role of an acid attack survivor. Chhapaak also starred Vikrant Massey as the male lead.
5. 'Indoo Ki Jawani'

Indoo Ki Jawani headlined by Kiara Advani is one of the few films which made it to the big screen post the coronavirus lockdown. The film directed by Abir Sengupta hit the theatres on December 11, 2020. The film also stars Aditya Seal as the male lead.
6. 'Jawaani Jaaneman'

Nitin Kakkar directorial Jawaani Jaaneman released on the big screen on January 31, 2020. The film starred Saif Ali Khan as the male lead with debutante Alaya F. Whereas Tabu had a special appearance.
7. 'Kaamyaab'

Sanjay Mishra and Deepak Dobriyal starrer Kaamyaab released in theatres on March 6, 2020. The film is helmed by Hardik Mehta.
8. 'Love Aaj Kal'

Imtiaz Ali directorial Love Aaj Kal hit the big screens on the occasion of Valentine's Day that is, February 14, 2020. The film stars Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan in the lead roles along with Randeep Hooda.
9. 'Malang'

Malang directed by Mohit Suri is considered as one of the most surprising hits of the year. The thriller flick released on February 7, 2020, stars Aditya Roy Kapur, Anil Kapoor, Disha Patani, Kunal Kemmu, Elli AvrRam and Amruta Khanvilkar in the lead roles.
10. 'Panga'

Kangana Ranaut starrer Panga released on January 24, 2020, and is directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari. The film also stars Jassie Gill, Richa Chadha and Neena Gupta in the lead roles.
11. 'Shikara'

Shikara directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra released on the big screen on February 7, 2020. The film stars Aadil Khan and Sadia Khateeb in the lead roles.
12. 'Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan'

Hitesh Kewalya directorial Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan starred Ayushmann Khurrana and Jitendra Kumar as a homosexual couple. The film released on February 21, 2020, and also starred Gajraj Rao, Neena Gupta, Manurishi Chaddha, Sunita Rajwar, Maanvi Gagroo, Pankhuri Awasthy and Neeraj Singh in pivotal roles.
13. 'Street Dancer 3D'

Remo D'Souza directorial Street Dancer 3D released on January 24, 2020, alongside Panga. The film had Varun Dhawan, Shraddha Kapoor, Prabhu Deva, Nora Fatehi, Aparshakti Khurana, Murali Sharma, Raghav Juyal, Dharmesh Yelande, Punit Pathak, Jigar Rupareliya and Sonam Bajwa.
14. 'Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari'

Abhishek Sharma's Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari became the first Bollywood movie to release on the big screen after the coronavirus lockdown. The movie was a Diwali release and hit the screens on November 15, 2020. The comedy flick starred Manoj Bajpayee, Diljit Dosanjh and Fatima Sana Shaikh in the lead roles.
15. 'Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior'

Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior starring Ajay Devgn in the titular role was among the first releases of the year. The period drama also starred Saif Ali Khan as the main antagonist along with Kajol and Sharad Kelkar. Directed by Om Raut, Tanhaji hit the screens on January 10, 2020.
16. 'Thappad'

Anubhav Sinha directorial Thappad starring Taapsee Pannu released on February 28, 2020. The movie also starred Dia Mirza, Pavail Gulati, Maya Sarao, Ratna Pathak Shah, Geetika Vidya Ohlyan, Kumud Mishra, Tanvi Azmi and others in pivotal roles.
