Year-ender 2019: WAR, Kabir Singh beat URI, Saaho at Box Office; know top 10 highest-grossing films of the year

Interestingly even Akshay Kumar's three movies - Housefull 4, Kesari and Mission Mangal made it to the list of highest-grossing films of 2019

2019 was an interesting year for Bollywood films and Box Office. Movies that were expected to perform well, tanked at the Box Office, and the movies which worked, were even rejected by a certain section of the society. Despite it all, there was a funny way for the movies to work at the Box Office.

While a movie like WAR worked mainly on Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff's fanbase, Kabir Singh, which was the remake of Telugu blockbuster Arjun Reddy, worked despite a lot of criticisms for the film, especially by a certain section of the society.

Although WAR and Kabir Singh worked, a movie like Saaho, which was based on Prabhas' stardom, tanked at the Box Office after a grand opening. URI: The Surgical Strike, the first-highest-grossing film of 2019, was beaten by Kabir Singh and later WAR.

Interestingly, three movies out of the list of top 10 highest-grossing films of 2019, belonged to Akshay Kumar. His movies Mission Mangal, Kesari and Housefull 4 were a hit at the Box Office and thus, landed a spot on the list.

Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff's WAR minted Rs. 292.715 crore and became the highest-grossing film of 2019.

Amidst controversies, Shahid Kapoor-Kiara Advani starrer Kabir Singh, which released in June, became the highest-grossing film for a brief period of time. It also gave Shahid Kapoor due as an actor. Kabir Singh had minted Rs. 276.34 crore at the Box Office.

Vicky Kaushal's URI: The Surgical Strike was a fever when it released on January 11, 2019. 'How's The Josh' was a slogan that every other person said out loud. This craze made URI the first highest-grossing film of 2019 with Rs. 244.0050 crore.

Even if dismissed by trade analysts, Akshay Kumar's film Housefull 4 was the fourth-highest-grossing film of 2019 so far with collections of Rs. 205.60 crore.

Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif's movie Bharat also made it to the list. The movie was in the top 5, with collections of Rs. 197.345 crore.

Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Sonakshi Sinha, Nithya Menon, Kirti Kulhari and Sharman Joshi starrer Mission Mangal minted Rs. 192.67 crore and became the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2019.

Akshay Kumar's Kesari, which released early this year and was produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, also made it to the list after earning Rs. 151.875 crore.

Ajay Devgn, Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit-Nene starrer Total Dhamaal collected Rs. 150.075 crore.

Even though declared a flop, Prabhas-Shraddha Kapoor's Saaho opened to great numbers and thus, the movie is the ninth-highest-grossing film of 2019 after minting Rs. 148.84 crore.

Shraddha Kapoor and Sushant Singh Rajput's Chhichhore also made it to the list at number 10. The movie earned Rs. 147.325 crore.
