‘Simmba’ Weekend Box Office Collection: Ranveer Singh starrer fails to beat Padmaavat
Ranveer Singh, Sara Ali Khan, Sonu Sood and Siddharth Jadhav starrer 'Simmba' opened to mixed reviews, but most of them having positive things to say about the film. It got released across 4,000 screens on December 28, a week after Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Zero’ released. The film recorded an average occupancy of 35% in the morning shows, which appeared lesser than Akshay Kumar-Rajinikanth starrer ‘2.0’, Tiger Shroff's 'Baaghi 2', Ranbir Kapoor's 'Sanju' and Ranveer’s own previous blockbuster ‘Padmaavat’, but having gained momentum by evening, it broke all records of opening and came right after ‘Thugs Of Hindostan’ opening, gathering 20.72 crores, leaving even Salman Khan’s ‘Race 3’ behind by a crore’s difference on Day 1.

1.Ranveer Singh managed to beat Padmaavat collections on Day 1, but not over the weekend
As per Box Office India, 'Simmba' registered an average occupancy of up to 35% in the morning shows. Akshay Kumar-Rajinikanth’s ‘2.0’, Tiger Shroff's 'Baaghi 2', Ranbir Kapoor's 'Sanju' and Ranveer’s own previous blockbuster ‘Padmaavat’ recorded better occupancies on Friday than Rohit Shetty's masala-entertainer 'Simmba'. 'Baaghi 2' had opened to 57.5% occupancy in the morning shows while 'Sanju' began with 55% occupancy. ‘2.0’ on the other hand comes closest since it opened to 37.5% occupancy. However despite all of this, Ranveer recorded an even higher opening than Salman Khan’s ‘Race 3’!
After collecting 75.11 crore over Friday and the weekend, Ranveer could not beat Salman Khan’s Race 3 collections of 106.47 crore or his own ‘Padmaavat’ collections of Rs. 114 crore after Sunday. However the trend for Ranveer Singh from ‘Padmaavat’ to ‘Simmba’ has many similarities. The collections of both began in the range of Rs. 20 crore and ended over the weekend around Rs. 31 crore.
2.Rohit Shetty, Ranveer Singh and Karan Johar coming together has proven to be a BLOCKBUSTER, but to what extent?
'Simmba' showcases the story of a police officer Sangram Bhalerao aka Simmba, who is inspired by Bajirao Singham. Apart from Ajay Devgn in a cameo appearance, the movie stars Sara Ali Khan, Sonu Sood and Siddharth Jadhav in pivotal roles. It also has a cameo by another superstar who has already played a police officer previously.
Considering the film is made in 125 crores and it has already recovered 60% of its making cost over the weekend, it should be a cakewalk for Rohit Shetty, Ranveer Singh and Karan Johar to earn their profits over the New Year days, ‘Zero’s not-so-successful run only giving ‘Simmba’ a boost.
3.Will ‘Simmba’ stand up to ‘Padmaavat’ total collections?
There isn’t much doubt that ‘Simmba’ is going to roar out loud at the Box Office and their grip went wild over the weekend, which is expected to grow even further, if business analyst Taran Adarsh is to be believed.
“#Simmba sets the BO on (fire) on Day 3... Has a fantastic weekend... Growth on Day 3 [vis-à-vis Day 2]: 33.13%... Should record solid numbers today [31 Dec] and tomorrow [1 Jan]… Fri 20.72 cr, Sat 23.33 cr, Sun 31.06 cr. Total: 75.11 cr. India biz.,” he wrote.
Interestingly ‘Simmba’ is Ranveer’s own highest opening film till date, and it is only growing, but seeing that it failed to beat ‘Padmaavat’ collections over the weekend, will ‘Simmba’ gain a spot in the top 5 highest grossers of 2018?
4.'Simmba' will witness a pump in footfall on Monday
Despite releasing on a usual Friday, ‘Simmba’ managed to earn great success on day 1, with almost as much of a good success over the weekend. It is expected to only get bigger as it may see a pump in footfall on Monday-Tuesday because of the New Year holiday. The positive word-of-mouth around ‘Simmba’ could also play a major role in making ‘Simmba’ one of the highest grossers of 2018, maybe even breaking ‘Padmaavat’ record of overall collection all over again, and probably even coming close, if not overcoming Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Sanju’s collection business.

After bringing 25% of the making budget back on day 1 and more on day 2, and having the potential to recollect all profits within three more days, ‘Simmba’ is definitely a strong contender at the Box Office.
Aanand L Rai's 'Zero' starring Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma is termed as a flop considering the high cost of making and no recovery of the same.
But what is really competing with ‘Simmba’ is superstar Yash’s ‘KGF’, which has crossed the 150 crore mark. Can ‘Simmba’ also manage that in its lifetime collections?
