SCOOPS: When Ayushmann Khurrana used to trim his eyebrows, CID's Daya to host 'Savdhaan India' and more

Recently, Ayushmann Khurrana made a startling revelation on the sets of The Kapil Sharma Show. When the stand-up comedian asked him if he paid the barber extra bucks to trim his eyebrows during his struggling days, the AndhaDhun star with his trademark smile revealed that he did that. “It’s true because during my struggling days wherever I used to go for auditions, casting directors used to say that I can’t be an actor because my eyebrows are too long and thick. So, whenever I used to go to the salon, I would give extra money to the barber who would cut and shape my eyebrows with the hope that I will be selected in the auditions.” To which Kapil said that one just has to tell the director that actors with big eyebrows can also be successful, Ayushmann is the living example.

Recently, one of the contestants of Dance India Dance performed on the hit song Khwab Dekhe (Race), which is originally choreographed by Bosco Martis. The ace dance director, who is also judging the show got a bit nostalgic and shared a sweet anecdote about Saif Ali Khan on whom the song is picturised. He recalled that the Nawab of Pataudi requested that he wanted to rehearse for the entire day so that he could do a good job the next day. “I did not shoot with him that day. Next day, he arrived at 7 am and by 8.30 am we were rolling. I feel Khwab Dekhe is one of the best numbers that Saif has done and one must just watch him once to perform to it.” Elaborating further about Saif and Kareena Kapoor Khan, he told the diva (who is also judging the show), “Well, I still remember Saif came to shoot the song after meeting you (Kareena) and that time you were not dating each other.”

Even though she was in Mumbai for barely a few days, Priyanka Chopra Jonas made sure she met Sharmin Segal. The Quantico actress is like a mentor and confidante for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s niece who makes her debut in Malaal.

The promising newbie and the Desi Girl became friends during the making of Mary Kom and Bajirao Mastani — the latter was an assistant director on both the films, which starred Priyanka. While the Baywatch star was amongst the first to wish Sharmin after the Malaal trailer was launched; we hear she caught some rushes of the film, which also marks the debut of Meezaan, during her recent visit to the bay. “Priyanka complimented Sharmin on her look and dance moves in Udhal Ho. In the song, Sharmin sports a nauvari sari similar to PCJ’s in Bajirao Mastani. Moreover, her make-up was done by Uday Shirali, who was also Priyanka’s makeup artiste in the SLB directorial. Also, Asha Ganpat Malpekar, who dressed PC in the song Pinga, dressed Sharmin for Udhal Ho, too. Sharmin taught Priyanka the hook step of the song and they did a l’il jig of Maharashtrian folk dance.”

Mincing no words about ‘feeling special and privileged’ in calling India’s global star her ‘mentor’, Sharmin says, “There are countless things she has guided me through and helped me understand. But the biggest takeaway has been... making the most of what life has to offer and learning how to believe in yourself and be confident.”

After playing an investigative cop in the fictional crime-based show CID, Dayanand Shetty aka Daya is all set to host Savdhaan India. The show deals with real-life crimes, and shows how the victims get justice. Currently, Tisca Chopra and Ashutosh Rana are hosting it. A source says that their contracts will be over in the first week of July and Daya will host the show from mid-July. “He will start shooting for it next week. Even Pravesh Rana has been approached, but negotiations are still on,” informs a source.
