On his birthday on October 11, Amitabh Bachchan shared his views on the #MeToo Movement online. The Hindi cinema icon said, “No woman should ever be subjected to any kind of misbehaviour, or disorderly conduct; especially at her workplace. Such acts should immediately be brought to the notice of concerned authorities, and corrective measures be taken, either through filing complaints or a recourse to law. Discipline and civic, social and moral curriculums, should be adopted at a very early educational level. Women, children and the weaker sections of our society are the most vulnerable. They need to be under special protective care. It has been most heartening to see women representations in most work vocations, on the increase in our country. It would be an unrepairable blemish if we are not able to provide them the welcome they deserve and the dignity of the security of their presence. (Sic)”

Vinta Nanda opened the Pandora’s box about Alok Nath when she wrote how she was raped and brutalised by him. After her allegations, actress Sandhya Mridul spoke about her harrowing incident of sexual harassment at the hands of the veteran actor. A crew member of Hum Saath Saath Hain also talked about his sexual misconduct. Now, his co-star from Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, Deepika Amin has opened up about him harassing her. She shared on her Twitter account, “Everyone in the industry knows that #AlokNath is an obnoxious drunkard who harasses women. Years ago on a telefilm outdoor shoot he tried to barge into my room. He slobbered over women, drunk and created a scene. The unit rallied around me and made sure I was safe. #metoo. (sic)”

Varun Grover, the writer of thriller web series Sacred Games, also features in the reported ‘tainted’ lot of the #MeToo Movement in Bollywood. Besides the Phantom Films boys (Vikas Bahl, Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane), who virtually threw open a can of worms by exposing one another, Varun’s name has also allegedly come under the microscope of those investigating the untoward goings-on at the production house and in the Sacred Games crew.

The web-streaming international giant is, therefore, evaluating its options about whether it will or will not continue its association with the people who are playing not-so-sacred at this point.

Bombay HC cancels Preity Zinta’s ‘molestation’ case

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday quashed the molestation case that Preity Zinta had filed against Ness Wadia after an Indian Premiere League (IPL) match four years ago. On May 30, 2014, the actress had accused the industrialist of molestation and criminal intimidation at the Wankhede Stadium, and lodged an FIR at the Marine Drive Police Station. Both of them are co-owners of the Kings XI Punjab IPL team.

In her statement, Zinta had said that Wadia abused the team staff over ticket distribution when she was seated in the Garware Pavilion. She had asked him to calm down as their team was winning, but he abused her and allegedly molested her by grabbing her arm.

Later in July 2014, Wadia reportedly shared names of nine people who he claimed were present around and requested the cops to record their statements as well.

His statement was recorded in May 2016 when he denied all allegations made against him. Now, the matter has been brought to an end after Preity filed an affidavit stating she had received an apology from Wadia and the dispute had been amicably settled with the intervention of the elders. The two also appeared for an in-chamber hearing before the division bench of Justice Ranjit More and Justice Bharati Dangre. After she said that she had no objection to the case being dropped, the FIR and charges against the industrialist were rescinded by the HC. While the settlement terms were not disclosed, Zinta wrote on Twitter, “It feels good to move on. Put to rest and forgive. It’s amazing how one simple word can give closure. The windscreen is always larger than the rear view mirror. (Sic)”
