A look at Shilpa Shetty-Raj Kundra's romantic and totally 'filmy' love story
Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra have been blissfully married for 11 years now and live a happy life with their two kids in their luxurious mansion.
Shilpa Shetty is one of Bollywood’s most talented and glamorous actors. She has delivered several hit films over the years and is praised by many for her toned figure. She is an ardent follower of Yoga and follows a very healthy lifestyle. Shilpa is married to businessman Raj Kundra.
Full of controversies, speculations and larger-than-life gestures, Shilpa and Raj’s love story is nothing less than a Bollywood film. Despite everything, the couple is blissfully married for 11 years now and live a happy life with their two kids in their luxurious mansion.
Before tying the knot with Shilpa in 2009, Raj was earlier married to Kavita and the couple got separated eventually.

Not many know this but Shilpa Shetty Kundra and Raj Kundra initially started as business acquaintances. Raj was helping Shilpa with the promotion of her perfume brand, S2. When media speculated any romance between the two, Raj denied it saying, ‘they are just friends’.

Shilpa in an earlier interview said she was swooned by his smile, charm, and persona. However, she was disappointed after a friend told her Raj was already married. She later got to know that Raj was going through a divorce.
Raj had also said that it was love at first sight for him. From the moment he saw her, he knew he would love her to be his life partner.

Shilpa and Raj secretly began dating in 2007 and the actress later came out in the open about their relationship.
“I was shooting for ‘Metro’ and during that time also went to the UK for ‘Big Brother’ shoot. I was sure that BB would not last long, but one week turned into three weeks and three months and eventually I stayed there for five-six months. Metro shoot was stalled but Anurag was generous and said that whenever you get time come back and I will shoot your portions in the film first. At the same time, I met Raj and he liked the ‘In Dino’ song very much. I made it my ringer tone as well. Whenever this song plays, a smile comes on my face,” she had said on an episode of ‘Indian Idol 12’.

Raj had tried woo Shilpa with expensive gifts and had even gifted her three Versace bags. London-based businessman Raj had bought a floor opposite Amitabh Bachchan’s house Jalsa.
"The building, where Raj bought the flat was not even constructed completely. It only had the 2nd floor, when we went to see it. But, he enthusiastically said, 'I've bought the 7th floor.' He then told me whether he works from here, or functions out of London doesn't really matter. It is then when he made it clear that he had decided,” she had told Pinkvilla.

Raj Kundra proposed to Shilpa most romantically at IIFA in Yorkshire. He had booked the entire banquet hall at The Grand and had booked violinists. Raj had conned Shilpa into thinking it was just a normal lunch and had already asked her parents. Raj proposed to Shilpa in the last course, the dessert, with a five-carat diamond ring. She said yes!

Raj was earlier married to Kavita, the daughter of a British-Indian businessman. They have a daughter together named, Deleena. Kavita had reportedly accused Shilpa of being a marriage-breaker and said that it was because of the actress that Raj left her and their newborn daughter. Shilpa and Raj both refuted the allegations and said that Kavita and Raj’s marriage was over long before they met.

Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra tied the knot on November 22, 2009, when she was 34. The couple had a true big fat Indian wedding with the functions taking place at Shilpa’s close friend’s farmhouse in Khandala. The couple had their engagement almost a month before their wedding at Raj's Juhu bungalow. Raj gifted Shilpa a 20-carat heart-shaped natural white diamond ring worth Rs 3 crores. Later, the couple threw a grand reception with all of the B-Town celebs in attendance.

For the wedding day, Shilpa wore a heavily embroidered traditional red saree, designed by Tarun Tahiliani while Raj wore a golden and maroon-coloured sherwani. The couple had an intimate wedding as per Mangalorean traditions with just family members.

Shilpa Shetty Kundra and Raj Kundra were blessed with their first child, Viaan Raj Kundra in May 2012. Shilpa later developed an auto-immune disorder due to which she suffered miscarriages. So, the couple welcomed their second child, a daughter, through surrogacy in February 2020. They named her Samisha Shetty Kundra.

The couple now happily live with their family in their palatial abode in Mumbai. Their lavish bungalow is called Kinara which Shilpa decorated herself according to Feng Shui and Vastu Shastra. The couple owns many luxurious properties across India and the globe, including an apartment in Burj Khalifa.
