News wrap-up: 'Jabariya Jodi' first look of Sidharth Malhotra-Parineeti Chopra, Priyanka left the paps for want of water

After revealing Jabariya Jodi’s logo with an interesting video, its makers have treated the audience to a quirky poster introducing them to the surprise wedding. The film’s first look featuring the lead pair — Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra — showcases the two gazing into each other’s eyes while a groom lies in a wedding chair. Jabariya Jodi is a fun take on the prevailing issue of groom abduction in Bihar and the vibrant poster gives us an insight into the same. Produced by Ekta Kapoor under the banner of Balaji Motion Pictures and Shailesh Singh’s Karma Media and Entertainment, Jabariya Jodi went on floors recently. It also stars Aparshakti Khurana, Sanjay Mishra, Neeraj Sood, Gopal Dutt, Javed Jaaferi and Chandan Roy Sanyal.

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’ roka ceremony on Saturday morning didn’t exactly prove to be fulfilling for the paparazzi covering it. And how did we know this? Because later in the day, the paps, who were at a film promotional event, were overheard saying that the Chopra family didn’t bother to send even drinking water down for them, forget sending any sweets. Must say this has left a pheeka taste in our mouths, too.

The makers of Commando 3, starring Vidyut Jammwal, had to postpone the first schedule of the movie. Initially scheduled to kick-start about three weeks ago, this Vipul Shah production was deferred as the leading man reportedly tore a ligament and was ruled out of action, literally. Fortunately, he is recovering well. And now the action thriller is expected to start in the first week of September in York, the historic walled city in North Yorkshire, England.

When something has to go contrary to plans, it will. Ask Ali Fazal, who had to fly to Malaysia to join the Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi team for a schedule. It was important for the actor to reach as planned because the team had got the permissions to shoot at a particular location for only two days. However, his flight was delayed and he booked himself on another one. 

Meanwhile, the production team, which was getting frenetic, booked the actor’s travel on yet another airline. After he checked in on the flight and got his luggage loaded, the departure was delayed due to unforeseen circumstances. In order to reach Kuala Lumpur earlier, he opted to take the flight the production team had booked him on. But since he didn’t have time to get his baggage offloaded, he flew without it. Fortunately, director Mudassar Aziz made use of the location and shot with the other actors and Ali had to finish his scenes in just a day instead of two. And since his luggage hadn’t reached Malaysia, he had to borrow clothes from his director. Thankfully, all ended well for the ‘Happy’ team as they wrapped up the shoot as scheduled.

Not all good things can be said about actors. Many are powerhouse performers but off-screen, their behaviour is nothing short of obnoxious. Nawazuddin Siddiqui, whose talent is immense, is not a pleasure to deal with. For an event of his upcoming film at a Juhu five-star, the actor kept the press waiting for over two hours. Since he’s the biggest actor in the star cast, the media persons seemed to have no option but to hang around till he sauntered in. Later, when asked about keeping everyone waiting, the actor said he wasn’t to be blamed as he was travelling and landed in the city only at 2 pm. Perhaps he should pull up someone for not giving him the correct media call time.

John Abraham has spoken about how his wife Priya Runchal is dignified and prefers to stay away from the limelight. Here’s another reason that made the actor-producer proud of her recently. A family residing in the same complex as the Satyameva Jayate actor was relocating to Europe and was in the midst of packing when Priya dropped in. Like a normal padosan, she courteously asked them if they wanted help. The family was pleasantly surprised that a star-wife showed such concern, especially since they don’t hear of many starry parivaars interacting with their non-filmi neighbours.

Amyra Dastur, who will be seen in the upcoming family drama, Rajma Chawal toplined by Rishi Kapoor, has finally bought the car of her dreams. The actress, who is currently shooting for Prassthanam and Mental Hai Kya, took over a month to choose and finally purchase the car she’s always wanted — a Mercedes. “I was definitely eyeing an SUV because my family has a farmhouse in Khandala and my parents have always owned something like the Pajero and Qualis so, another SUV is something for everyone to feel comfortable in,” she says. Amyra adds that she recently turned 25 and decided to buy her new ride from her earnings.  

Amyra says, “When I called my dad and told him about my plans to buy the Mercedes GLC 220D, he was ecstatic. He’s 65 years old and I knew this was something on his bucket list. He was practically in tears telling me how truly proud he was of me. We went to the showroom for the delivery and he was just jumping with joy clicking photos and gushing over my accomplishments. He was like a child with a new toy. I even let him drive it first.”

It’s not unusual for an actor and his leading lady to bond offscreen even after they have wrapped up the project. Jackky Bhagnani and Kritika Kamra, who will be seen in an upcoming movie, seem to have become good friends. The two were recently spotted at a Bandra restobar, having dinner saath-saath. Of course, he had all eyes and ears for her as he seemed to absorb every word she spoke.

Chalo, badhiya hai, especially after we heard some weeks ago that Jackky was venting anger at himself at a resort in the distant suburbs. A source who was present at that venue told us that the actor-producer seemed oblivious to others watching him while he slapped himself silly at a five-star hotel some time ago. We were worried about him then, but on hearing about his Friday’s dinner outing, we’re happy he’s in better company.

Supriya Pilgaonkar, who plays a pivotal role in the web series Home, got hurt while shooting for the show. The actress was required to ride a scooter for a scene and to make it look authentic, Supriya decided to not use a body double but to learn it herself. It was while learning to ride it that she met with a small accident and hurt her elbow. Interestingly, instead of hiding the scar, they made an impromptu change in the script where they showed it as a burn that she got while cooking. Says Supriya, “While discussing the character, I felt that the scar on my forearm should not be hidden as I play a housewife running a tiffin business. Habib (Faisal, director) welcomed the idea, as it was going well with the essence of the show.”

While one has heard of newbies becoming high-handed after a hit or two, this star kid, who’s not even one film old, has got very poor manners. People, who meet her at the salon she frequents, observed that she is quite badly behaved. “This girl is so unlike her father,” say the other patrons of the place. Her actor-father may not have been successful but he has a reputation for always being pleasant. Sadly, this good quality of his hasn’t rubbed off on his beti. Tsk, tsk!
