The makers of Total Dhamaal had released a song ‘Mungda’. The song was a recreation of Helen’s song from the movie Inkaar. It was composed by well-known composer Rajesh Roshan and sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle’s sister Usha Mangeshkar.

The recreation did not go down well with either the netizens or Rajesh Roshan, Usha Mangeshkar and Lata Mangeshkar. The original composers expressed their disenchantment over the newer version of the song which featured Sonakshi Sinha and Ajay Devgn.

The conversation about the same continued as Indra Kumar reacted, Rajesh Roshan counter-reacted and Ajay Devgn spoke about the trend of recreating songs in Bollywood movies as a whole. 'Mungda' isn't the first song Rajesh Roshan song to be reacreated. In 2017, his song 'Saara Zamaana' was recreated for his nephew Hrithik Roshan's film Kaabil.

'Mungda' however has come back in news, since Rajesh Roshan and Ajay Devgn spoke up. Here, see the whole timeline of 'Mungda' row:

1. "Less inspiration, more perspiration," accused Rajesh Roshan

"I think there is less of inspiration and more of perspiration in the music industry. The filmmakers have lost confidence in creating new songs," Rajesh Roshan told a daily. Recollecting about how he and Usha collaborated, the composer added, "I gave Usha Mangeshkar ji the song to sing. She sang several songs for me and was one of those competent singers who could breathe life into a tune."

Usha Mangeshkar also expressed her anger and said, "Our songs (the songs sung by the Mangeskar sisters Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle and Usha Mangeshkar) were created after a great deal of thought and they were done with sensitivity and care. To rip them off in this arbitrary manner is not correct," to which Lata Mangeshkar questioned, "We are not asked if we approve or not. No one seeks our consent before using our songs. Is that right?"

3. "Don't need consent from Rajesh Roshan and Lata Mangeshkar," cleared Total Dhamaal director Indra Kumar

Indra responded to all the accusations an interview with Mid-Day saying, “Lack of originality and talent in music is an understatement”. Responding to Lata Mangeshkar, he added, “We don’t have to take their consent. When 'Neend Churayi Meri' was remade (for Golmaal Again; the original song was from Kumar’s Ishq), no one came to me for approval. The rights belong to the music label, and they (owners of the label) have the right to do what they want to.”

Kumar further justified by saying he’s serving to today’s generation with the beautiful songs, “There is no harm in following trends. This generation has been deprived of those beautiful songs. Our job is to pass on the gems to them. Today’s generation isn’t aware of it. My kids hadn’t heard the original till I made them listen to the new version, and they loved it.”

''Law is against us. Music companies are selling our songs to producers at throwaway prices. We are helpless. Indra Kumar has gone on record to say his version of Mungda in Total Dhamaal cannot be compared with the original,'' Rajesh told IANS.

"Then why do it? Why repeatedly resort to this kind of inappropriate conduct?,'' questioned the composer.

5. Ajay Devgn talks about the trend of recreating songs in general, says "there is dearth of good music"

“There is definitely dearth of good music today. Being from a different generation, I still like that music more than today’s music. The current generation might not agree to my thoughts. The lyrics of the past era can never come back today. There is just no one today who can write good songs, barring two or three people. If we require a song with depth, it’s almost like searching such people with a begging bowl. I am not saying the current generation does not have emotions but the depths have now changed,” the actor told Firstpost in an interview.
