'Mission Mangal' vs 'Batla House' Box Office Clash: Akshay Kumar has biggest opening weekend, John's film still half

Akshay Kumar and John Abraham clashed at the Box Office yet again on Independence Day i.e. August 15 of 2019. The two had previously released their films Gold and Satyameva Jayate on Independence Day i.e. August 15 of the year 2018.

In 2019, Akshay Kumar starrer Mission Mangal which features Sonakshi Sinha, Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari and Sharman Joshi in pivotal roles, released alongside John Abraham-Mrunal Thakur's Batla House. Ever since their release, the Box Office collections have been favouring one side.

Akshay Kumar benefitted the most out of the clash, since his movie has gone on break his own records since day 1. On the other hand, John Abraham starrer has failed to break records of his 2018 release itself. Although the movie is not doing bad business, it is not earning as much as Mission Mangal.

Akshay Kumar's movie had opened to 50-55% occupancy, as compared to John Abraham's Batla House, which only managed a range between 20-25%. The predictions on Box Office India claimed that Mission Mangal would earn over 23.67 crore on opening day.

Akshay Kumar managed to break his own record set by 2018's Independence Day release Gold. In fact Mission Mangal also broke this year's one of the highest grossing Akshay films, Kesari,'s record too. Minting Rs. 28.50 crore approximately, Mission Mangal lead the race in highest opening films of Akshay Kumar of all time. Meanwhile John Abraham's film Batla House stuggled on day 1. The movie fell short of as much as 5 crore to beat the record set by Satyameva Jayate's opening. Batla House minted Rs. 14.50 crore.

Even though Mission Mangal saw some drop on Friday and earned close to Rs. 18 crore only due to working day, the movie is expected to earn a lot more over the weekend. It minted Rs. 17.28 crore on Friday, most of its collections from multiplexes. Batla House, on the other hand, earned Rs. 8.84 crore on Friday.

Mission Mangal minted Rs. 27.54 crore on Sunday after collections of Rs. 23.58 crore on Saturday. Meanwhile John Abraham's Batla House took a jump of Rs. 2 crore and earned Rs. 12.70 crore after Rs. 10.90 crore business on Saturday.

Both the movies might not have touched Rs. 100 and Rs. 50 crore mark yet, but Akshay Kumar's Mission Mangal went on to mint Rs. 97.56 crore over the weekend, and Batla House earned Rs. 47.99 crore.

Both the movies released on Independence Day. Akshay Kumar got his highest opening film thanks to the Holiday release, but Batla House did not see such phenomenal growth. Mission Mangal is now not only Akshay Kumar's highest opening grosser but also his highest opening weekend film, followed by 2.0. Meanwhile John Abraham's Batla House did not even open to collections close to Satyameva Jayate, in turn failing to give tough competition to Mission Mangal.
