Nafeesa Sultan was born on May 27, 1956, to Ashiq Hussain Warsi and Razia. After her parents divorced, her mother Razia married a lawyer named I.P. Sachdev. She then changed her own name to Ranjana Sachdev and renamed her daughter Asha Sachdev.

Asha Sachdev played prominent roles in several successful films during the 1970s and 1980s, including Agent Vinod, The Burning Train, Satte Pe Satta, Woh Main Nahin, Priyatama, among others. In the 2000s, she acted in brief roles in films such as Fiza, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, and Aaja Nachle.

Asha Sachdev played the pivotal character of Shanno in the iconic television series Buniyaad, which originally aired 105 episodes on DD National from May 1986 to May 1987. Focused on the Partition of India and its aftermath, the highly successful soap opera has seen several re-runs on TV.
