Isha Ambani- Anand, DeepVeer, NickYanka: Wow weddings of 2018

Isha Ambani’s nuptials with Anand Piramal were, without a shadow of a doubt, the social event of the year! When the Yale graduate and daughter of India’s richest man, Mukesh Ambani, married the real estate mogul, the grandeur dazzled the invitees and ordinary folk alike. The guest list comprised politicians, singers and superstars from around the globe. A precursor to the splendour was the pre-wedding bash in Udaipur that saw Beyoncé performing and US Senator Hillary Clinton as well as Former US Secretary of State John Kerry among others in attendance. Superstars Shah Rukh Khan, Varun Dhawan, Katrina Kaif, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan danced. At the wedding on December 12 at the Ambanis’ Mumbai residence, Antilla, Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Aamir Khan served the Piramals’ family and relatives at sajjan goth — a ritual where the bride’s family ensures that the groom’s side eats well. The wedding set the bar high with its ultimate opulence.

It was a fairytale wedding where Priyanka’s custom, hand-beaded Ralph Lauren gown was paired with a jaw-dropping 75-foot veil for the Christian ceremony. Nick waited at the altar in a sharp Lauren suit. We saw him wiping away a tear as his bride walked down the aisle. Celebrations began in Taj Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, Rajasthan from November 29 to December 3, with ceremonies taking place on December 1 and 2. For the Hindu part, Priyanka sported a red Sabyasachi lehenga, while Nick opted for a hand-quilted silk sherwani. And continuing the wedding festivities, the duo had four wedding receptions. Now, that’s one never-ending celebration!

It was a summer wedding for Sonam Kapoor now Sonam K Ahuja and her husband Anand S Ahuja, who tied the knot on May 8 in Mumbai. The actress chose to wear a modern-yet-classic red and gold lehenga by Anuradha Vakil and accessorised the trousseau with a choker layered with a guttapusalu necklace, multi-stranded matha patti and tons of bangles. The two were clearly having the time of their lives as they posed for cameras. Bollywood knows how to go all out and party and they celebrated the Kapoor-Ahuja marriage with performances that had everyone setting the dance floor on fire.

Bajirao married his Mastani in an intimate wedding celebration at Lake Como, Italy on November 14. The spree comprised a sangeet, mehendi, two ceremonies — Konkani (along with some more rituals) and Anand Karaj. Not to forget friends and family back home, this duo threw a bash in Bengaluru on November 21 for Deepika’s side followed by a party thrown by Ranveer’s sister Ritika on November 24 and then another reception in Mumbai for Ranveer’s relatives on November 28. Comedian Kapil Sharma tied the knot with his ladylove Ginni Chatrath in an intimate ceremony in Punjab on December 12, the same day Isha and Anand exchanged vows back in Mumbai. For her big day, Ginni wore a shimmery lehenga and traditional jewellery, while Kapil donned a white kurta-pyjama and a pagri. This was followed by a reception that saw singer Daler Mehendi in attendance. The duo also hosted a bash for friends in the industry at a five-star venue in Mumbai on December 24. Newlyweds Deepika and Ranveer attended and shook a leg at the do that was also attended by Karan Johar, Kartik Aaryan, Rekha, Tusshar with dad Jeetendra, Dharmendra and Kriti Sanon among many other celebs.

The duo got married in a surprise Gurudwara wedding on May 10 and shared the happy news with a joint statement that read, “Marrying your best friend is one of the greatest feelings in the world, and we are extremely fortunate to have found love in each other. It has been a beautiful journey knowing each other and after formalising the wedding earlier this year, today, we exchanged our vows in a beautifully simple, private and intimate Anand Karaj ceremony in Delhi.” They later went on to become parents to daughter Mehr Dhupia Bedi. While their union was a low-key affair, it did create a lot of buzz online as not many knew about their wedding plans.
