Here are some hand-picked Instagram pictures that will take you inside the home of the late actor and his wife Sutapa.

Late Irrfan Khan was an actor par excellence and that he had an eye for detailing was visible in the way he had furnished his home in Mumbai. From a pond in the middle of the living room, a 'jhoola', charpoys sourced from artisans in Jodhpur, floral motif and Gond art on the walls in the house, everything about the actor and his wife Sutapa Sikdar's Mumbai home spoke of art, creativity and their Indian roots.

"Irrfan Khan and Sutapa Sikdar wanted a place that is welcoming and one that makes you forget about the outside. They wanted to create a world of their own within this chaotic city of Mumbai, where they could be connected with everything, yet stay away from the noise," interior designer Shabnam Gupta of Mumbai-based The Orange Lane told huzz.in in an interview.

Here are some hand-picked Instagram pictures that will take you inside the home of the late actor and his wife Sutapa.

Take a look:

The entrance lobby of late actor Irrfan Khan's fifth floor Mumbai home is dripping in dark blue. Whi is that so? "So that when you enter the house from the noise outside, it changes your mindset. It brings you in," Irrfan was quoted telling Architectural Digest India. The interior of the house is a reflection of Irrfan's ancestry. Born to a Pathan family in Rajasthan, Irrfan got his master's degree in Jaipur. And so, in some ways, his house pays homage to his history through various wall hangings, mirrors and furniture that have been locally sourced from Jaipur. Some of these antics though are sourced from Sutapa and Irrfan's personal collectables.

Irrfan's soulful vibe reiterated throughout his home via various things like a selection of paintings on the wall, furniture among other things. The actor's bedroom exuded a strong Indian vibe without seeking attention at all. With the subtle yet impactful Gond art painting on the wall, rough stone on the archway, white space that is accentuated with bright blue cushions and a headboard of the same colour, Irrfan's room screamed peace. The room also had an elaborate study room attached to it at the back. It also has a reading nook and comfortable seating. As per AD, "the bed was custom-made on-site; the chairs, stand and rug are from Irrfan's collection."

"This room displays floral motifs, more Gond art, antique pieces and is an individualistic area that stands out on its own in a house accented with varied knick-knacks. This room also has a tiny balcony, just big enough to hold a round yellow table and two chairs,” Shabnam Gupta told Huzz.in.While talking about Sutapa's room, late Irrfan was quoted telling AD, "I like her room because it is its own thing; it has evolved on its own. There is no school of design here. There is nothing synthetic about the way it feels."

While the upholstery of the dining area echoes rich blue, the hue that dominates the space is a calm white accentuated by the brown of the table and black wire lamps suspended above the table, just over eye-level. The area also features panelled mirrors on a wall that helps makes the room look bigger while another inset of windows leads to the living room.

One of the most beautiful spaces in the house, the living room of the house is special in more ways than one. Unlike the modern living rooms that we now see, this one has a pond in the middle of the room, a 'jhoola' and charpoys that hardly anyone uses these days. "The living room, inspired by garden spaces, has an exposed ceiling with a floral light installation that almost looks as if a creeper has naturally clung to the slab and spread across the expanse. A deep-blue waterbody, with the gentle sound of water overflowing from the urn placed at the centre adds a sense of serenity of the space,” Gupta told huzz.in.
