It’s a historic judgement. Section 377 was something that came into being in 1860. I’m glad it’s been abolished. All of us should have the freedom to love whoever we want irrespective of caste, colour or sex. Love all, love free.
2.Tusshar
I think this was long overdue. We seemed to have got stuck with an archaic law that has no place in today’s society and India. Three cheers to the Supreme Court for heralding a new freedom for the people of this country, who felt discriminated against by old colonial laws even after being guaranteed constitutional rights. Jai Hind!
3.Kriti Sanon
Everyone has the right to be who they want to be, to recognise their sexuality and love who they want to love without being judged! Love has no rules or conditions and that’s how it should be. This is the India we should be. This was a much-needed step and I am thrilled that it has finally happened. A few of my closest friends (who are also my staff) are gay!
4.Kartik Aaryan
This is a historic moment for our country. This is what freedom is! Love doesn’t discriminate against gender or anything... love is just love. I am proud of our judiciary system.
5.Taapsee Pannu
It’s a landmark day for humanity. Scrapping an age-old law had been pending for a long time and I’m glad our law has taken this huge step to make things right. I am extremely happy that above all, love wins. It’s amazing to know that regardless of one’s preferences, they’re today recognised as equal to all. Now, I truly feel India has entered the 21st century.
6.Athiya Shetty
The best news I’ve heard in a long, long time. I feel so proud and happy. Love shouldn’t have any rules or conditions. And I’m so glad we, as a country, now recognise that, and its importance. It’s one step towards a better world, acceptance, freedom and unity.
7.Kiara Advani
Love is love! What an incredible day. This is humanity, so proud to be living in a country that can respect love.
8.Swara Bhasker
I think it’s a huge and historic decision. It’s amazing that the Supreme Court has upheld the universal humanist values and the spirit of Indian Constitution. What’s really important is that in the verdict the Supreme Court has said that majoritarian viewers and popular morality cannot dictate constitutional rights. We have to vanquish prejudice, embrace inclusion and ensure equal rights. This is basically the value inherent in the Constitution. I want to thank them and congratulate the activists and petitioners who have persistently fought for this cause for 18 years. It is because of them that India is a freer place. It’s so beautiful that, finally, everyone in our country has the right to be what they are. It’s a moment to celebrate.
9.Karan Patel
Everyone should have the freedom to love, and love for someone should not be limited to gender, cities or religion. Intimacy between two individuals should be a personal opinion. I am glad the section has been completely done away with. More importantly, I am glad to be living in a country where love is not a crime and sex between two people who love each other and are of the same gender is not a punishable act anymore.
10.Keith Sequeira
The right to be, the right to choose, the right to live freely and with dignity. In the words of our honourable Chief Justice, “Any repression will be a violation of free expression.” We are the largest democracy in the world and we must be that. It makes me proud to be an Indian!
11.Raveena Tandon Thadani
This is a huge historically progressive step of new India. I’m proud of the Supreme Court to a certain extent because this has been in our society since ancient times. It’s not something that has come out in modern India just to be cool. So, why ignore this community? They need to have equal rights as well. I am so happy as I follow the policy, ‘live and let live’, and ‘love and let love’. Some of my friends are homosexual and some of the sons and daughters of my best pals are transgender. It is something that is scientifically in your body, you can’t fight against that. So, the laws curbing them are redundant and legally they have every right to be what they are. It’s great to live and love whoever they want.
12.Mohit Malik
I have always had immense respect for everyone who is in love and fights all odds to keep that love alive. Same gender love is not taboo as it’s a choice and a lifestyle for many. The section being done away with has come as a pleasant surprise! I have so many friends who will now be living freely, I can’t be happier. It’s good to finally be living in a country where everyone is treated equally.
