'He told me to call if I need anything': Kalki Koechlin opens up on pregnancy and ex-husband Anurag Kashyap's reaction

During an interaction, Kalki Koechlin opened up about being five-months pregnant, opting for water birth and ex-husband Anurag Kashyap's reaction to the news.

On Sunday, Kalki Koechlin surprised everyone by revealing that she is five months pregnant and will be welcoming a baby by the end of the year or January 2020 with partner Guy Hershberg. Talking about her beau, he is a classical pianist from Jerusalem in Isreal. Kalki went on to reveal that she is opting for a water birth which will happen in Goa. The talented actor has also decided the name of her baby.

Kalki had told HT Brunch, "Motherhood began with my brother, who is much younger than I am. I remember watching him come home from school one day, he must have been seven or eight, with a project on climate change and thinking ‘this is such a renewal of innocence’. Children take us back to the basics; remind us of what is important. Also, just wanting to experience pregnancy, of feeling this life growing inside you."

Now, during an interaction with Mumbai Mirror, Kalki shared more details about her pregnancy and also about her ex-husband Anurag Kashyap's reaction to the news.

On being quizzed about her reaction to knowing about her pregnancy, Kalki Koechlin told in an interview, "I went and immediately bought another pregnancy test, just to make sure. But it was a very happy reaction. I think the last few years have been a situation where, I know I have wanted children, but I was also not been in a… either the times weren’t right or I wasn’t with the right person. Or whatever, there was something! So all those things seemed to have come in place this time. Even though it wasn’t planned as we were thinking maybe in a year or two. But I think that’s the best thing about it. Now we are just diving right into it without too much pre-planning."

When Mumbai Mirror asked about how being pregnant has been until now, Kalki replied, "God, the first three months were terrible! I have developed so much respect for all the mothers out there who work or have to go through all this without emotional support. The second trimester is fun. I have the energy to work-out and II am cheerful at work. The kicks are amazing. Feels like there’s a little footballer in there!"

Kalki also revealed that wedlock term is not something which can be used for a millennial couple. She told the tabloid, "What is this term ‘out of wedlock’? It belongs in a Shakespearean drama and not in a millennial world. Marriage can be useful for bureaucracy, but it is not a sign of love. Only time and consistency tell of a strong relationship."

The actor went on to reveal that she has decided the name of the baby too. Kalki said, "Yes, I have chosen the name, if it’s a girl. And Guy has chosen a name in case it’s a boy. No, don’t ask what it is. I cannot reveal the name yet."

When asked about ex-husband and filmmaker Anurag Kashyap's reaction to her pregnancy, Kalki said, "He’s just welcomed me to the parents’ club and told me to call if I need anything. Seeing Aaliyah (Anurag’s daughter) growing up and my own brother Oriel too, I’ve already got a glimpse into this role of a lifetime."

Kalki went on to say that she is opting for a water birth. "I cannot plan that far and wouldn’t want to. As and when the next challenge comes up, I will accept it with an open mind. The water birth is said to be a great way both for mother and child to experience less trauma", said Kalki.

When quizzed about motherhood, Kalki replied, "It’s too early to speak of motherhood, but I can say that pregnancy wakes you up. It heightens your awareness physical through your sense of smell, taste, breath and body awareness. Mentally, it guides you to not retaliate but respond in stressful situations. It is an emotional state of daily discovery and excitement which outweighs the ups and downs of mood swings. Let’s see what the third trimester brings."
