Richa Chadha to Hansal Mehta: Celebs who have extended support to Shilpa Shetty after Raj Kundra's arrest in porn case

Bollywood filmmaker Hansal Mehta extended his support for actor Shilpa Shetty Kundra and asked everyone to give Shilpa some privacy and pointed out how public figures are proclaimed guilty even before justice is meted out.

Hansal tweeted, "If you cannot stand up for her at least leave Shilpa Shetty alone and let the law decide? Allow her some dignity and privacy. It is unfortunate that people in public life ultimately are left to fend for themselves and are proclaimed guilty even before justice is meted out.”

He also called out other Bollywood celebrities for not speaking out for her and wrote, "This silence is a pattern. In good times everybody parties together. In bad times there is deafening silence. There is isolation. No matter what the ultimate truth the damage is already done.”

Hansal further continued and added, "This vilification is a pattern. If the allegations are against a film person there is a rush to invade privacy, to pass sweeping judgement, to character-assassinate, to fill `news` with trashy gossip - all at the cost of individuals and their dignity. This is the cost of silence.”

Actress Richa Chadha also extended her support to Shilpa Shetty.  Richa retweeted a tweet of Hansal Mehta and wrote, “We've made a national sport out of  blaming women for the mistakes of the men in their lives. Glad she's suing.”

Shilpa Shetty’s sister Shamita Shetty hasn’t directly spoken on Raj Kundra’s case but she shared a poster of ‘Hungama 2’ and told her sister that everything will be alright. “Uve gone through a lot of Ups n downs in life and one thing I know for sure .. Uve emerged stronger!… this too shall pass my darling,” read an excerpt from Shamita’s post.

In fact, the producer of ‘Hungama 2’, Ratan Jain also showed his support for Shilpa Shetty saying that she wouldn’t do something like this and stated people should let the investigative agencies do their job. While speaking to ETimes, Jain said, “As much as I know Shilpa, she will not do something like that at all. I can’t really say, how much did she really know about her husband's business, but I don't think she was involved in it. Any family person should not do this kind of work and jitna main Shilpa ko jaanta hoon woh aisa kaam nahi karegi.”

Rakhi Sawant has time and rain defended Shilpa Shetty on the matter. In a video shared by a paparazzi account Rakhi said, “Friends, do you not think that Shilpa ji has worked so hard in Bollywood and someone is trying to malign her name.” 

She further added, “I refuse to believe that Raj Kundra is guilty. He is a respectable man, he is Shilpa Shetty’s husband, we should respect him. He is a businessman, someone is blackmailing and trying to defame Shilpa Shetty. I feel like crying when I hear such things, that someone is trying to lead a good life and they are not being allowed to.”

‘Gandhi Baat’ fame Gehana Vasisth, who is also an accused in the Raj Kundra case, supported Shilpa and repeated her words, reiterating that Raj was not involved in porn. Gehana had released a statement that read, “The law will take its course. We have full faith in Mumbai police, but they should not mix up porn with erotica or bold content. We have always said that Mumbai police is the best force in the world. The courts will eventually decide during trial as to who are the real culprits and which of the arrested accused were merely used, by others (sic).”
