Sooryavanshi is not the first time when Akshay Kumar plays an armed officer
Akshay Kumar has explored many roles throughout his career spanning of 28 years. He might be tagged as the 'Khiladi' Kumar in Bollywood, but the actor has continuously tried to change his image. Hence he has recently done movies where he plays good cop, bad cop, comedy, movies with social messages and work in the armed force.
The actor will soon be seen in Kesari. In the film, he plays a soldier away from his home, fighting the Battle Of Saranghari. The movie, backed by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, is slated to release on March 21 this year. It also stars Parineeti Chopra as his love interest.
Meanwhile, his other film, Sooryavanshi, which is part of Rohit Shetty's cop franchise, is back in news. This happened after the makers unveiled the poster of the Akshay Kumar starrer announcing not just the release date of the film (Eid 2020) but also confirming that Simmba Ranveer Singh and Singham Ajay Devgn will be part of the film, which is once again co-produced by Karan Johar.
While we wait to see Akshay in both these roles, here's proof that cop movies, especially movies which include the armed forces, have worked well for the actor:
1. 'Rustom'

Akshay Kumar played a navy officer in Rustom. The movie starred Ileana D'Cruz as his wife. The story of this film was about a murder. Arjan Bajwa was killed in the film. Co-incidentally Akshay had mistaken him as Ileana's lover just before Arjan died in the film. Even though the story revolved around the murder mystery, Akshay received praises for pulling off the role of a navy officer with finesse.
2. 'Rowdy Rathore'

'Don't Angry Me' became the slogan of the town after angry young officer Akshay Kumar was seen as Rowdy Rathore in the film which also starred Sonakshi Sinha. The movie was directed by Prabhudheva and became a rage when it released in 2012.
3. 'Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty'

Akshay Kumar once again appeared with Sonakshi Sinha in AR Murugadoss' Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty. The story was about a soldier on a mission and it kept audiences gripped.
