One of the most iconic scenes from Tamasha is the breakup scene of Ved and Tara which has gone down in the history of Indian cinema. Earlier during an interaction with Film Companion, Imtiaz had decoded the scene and spoke about the brief he gave to Deepika.

The filmmaker stated, "I told Deepika that I was in some country and walking across a path and I saw a grown-up girl was sitting and weeping alone on a park bench while some people were jogging and walking across. She was crying and people were looking at her and she obviously wasn’t enjoying it but she couldn’t help it. But she must have thought ‘Can I hold it till I go home and get into the room and cry comfortably in there?’. But the house must be far away. It’s a big city problem as when you get emotional, by the time you can ensconce yourself in the privacy and comfort of your house, it’s too far. So what do you do? You cry in a cafeteria."
