Come October 2, employees of Wipro, an information technology services corporation, across the world will be running to celebrate the diversity of their organisation. The Spirit of Wipro run will be conducted in 10 Indian cities and also 24 cities outside the country.
“The purpose of the run is to celebrate the true spirit of the organisation. Apart from Wiproites around the globe, their family members will also take part in the run,” said Sachin Mulay, general manager, brand and communication, Wipro.
An employee at the human resource department of the company, Devika Rajeev, added, “Such events will strengthen the bond between the employees, promote their team spirit and also help in improving a sense of belonging among them.”
“I had participated in the first Spirit of Wipro run. I could finish only a short distance then. But it encouraged me to train myself for the next run and inspired me to run for the Bangalore Half-Marathon,” said Willem Jan de Graaff, programme manger, Wipro, Amsterdam office. The employees’ registration amount will be used to fund Wipro’s green projects. The organising team is trying to make the event as green as possible with bare minimum usage of paper, banners and other such resources.
Those who wish to get trained for the event have been provided with the facility. “In Bangalore, for instance, Arjun Devaiah, an international athlete from the Abhimanyu Academy, will train the employees. The training sessions are conducted over the weekend free of cost,” said Mulay.
The company has created 10 characters to popularise the event this year. “These characters will engage the runners during the marathon, and they will be promoted through YouTube, and other social networking websites like Facebook,” he added.
