‘Wayward’ biker gets 1 killed

A motorcycle rider’s act of taking liberty of entering a road from the wrong side resulted in a major accident on early Monday morning, taking the life of one person and injuring 10.

The accident took place near the hanging bridge in KR Puram—near Muthu Mariamma temple, on Hoskote side of the bridge—about 5.30 am. A BMTC bus that was going towards KR Market from Hoskote with 15 passengers hit the pillar of the skywalk when its driver swerved the bus to avoid hitting a motorcycle, which entered the road from the wrong side. As the bus was in speed, its right side got totally damaged when it hit the skywalk’s pillar.

One Qutub Dynamulla, 22, a passenger sitting on the right side, was injured severely. He died before he could be taken to a hospital. The injured, including the bus driver, were taken to different hospitals. Two of the injured are critical and are in ICU. The others who were injured are out of danger.

Deputy commissioner of police (traffic-West) Lokesh Kumar attributed the accident to the bus driver’s bid to avoid hitting the motorcycle that came on the road from the wrong side. The traffic police said they had identified the motorcycle rider—Harish Kumar of KR Puram. Although he too was injured, the police are not aware where he went to take treatment. The police are on the lookout for him.

Woman among 3 killed in mishaps
Three persons, including a woman, were killed  in separate accidents in the city on Monday night.

Bharath Kumar, 24, and his colleague Federick  were riding to their homes in Dooravani Nagar  after attending an office meeting. When they were near BMSIT College, a speeding mini-lorry collided head-on with the motorcycle.

Kumar, who was riding the bike, fell on the road and died instantly after after being run over by the lorry. Federick, who also suffered injuries, was admitted to Fortis Hospital where he was out of danger, according to police.The lorry driver was arrested.

In another incident, a vegetable vendor was killed after being knocked down by a motorcycle.  Armugam, 61, was crossing Dr Marigowda Road around 7 pm after leaving his push cart outside his home located nearby.

Suddenly, a speeding motorcycle knocked him down killing him instantly. The motorcyclist was arrested.

In the third incident, a 45-year-old woman was killed and her son injured when the van they were travelling in overturned.

Jayamma was returning to her home in Mysore along with her son Harish aka Narayan who was behind the wheel. As the speeding van approached Nice Road junction around 8.30 pm, it overturned killing his mother instantly. Harish was admitted to a nearby hospital. where he was out of danger, according to  Kengeri traffic police.
