UK lures Bangalore students with superior quality education

Shyam Prakash R, an engineering graduate from Bangalore is gung-ho about bagging a seat at the University of Bristol in England, UK, to do his MSc Communications Networks and Signal Processing.

The 21-year-old feels that specialising in the subject that interests him from a country that is renowned for quality research and academics would help him in his career growth. “I am going to the UK for better career opportunities. University of Bristol is known for its highly specialised courses, and I want to have the best international education,” said Shyam, on the sidelines of a seminar on student visas conducted at the British Library on Tuesday.

The seminar was conducted through a videoconference from British Council, Chennai, for the benefit of city-based students, who have secured admission in various institutions of the UK for batches that begin in September/ October 2010.

Addressing the seminar, Mike Christie, entry clearance officer and student co-ordinator for India and Sri Lanka, UK Border Agency, British Deputy High Commission, said the event was for candidates applying for student visas under tier-4 of the Points-Based System and also for those who were planning to go to the UK in future for higher studies. “Over the years, we have seen an excellent increase in the number of students applying for visa to study in UK-based educational institutes,” said Christie.

In 2009, there had been an increase of 45% in the number of visas issued to Indian students going to the UK compared to the previous year, said L Dhanasekaran, Head of Education UK (south India), British Council division.
