The vice-chancellor and registrar of Tumkur University on Monday apologised to the high court by way of an affidavit, after they were threatened of criminal prosecution if failed to furnish information on the intake of students into the Master of Education (MEd) programme.
A public interest litigant, Devraj M, had filed a case on August 2, 2010 challenging the university's decision to increase the numbers of students admitted to MEd courses in History, Mathematics, Business Administration and Fine Arts.
Under the new rules, each class in these disciplines could comprise only 34 students. Vice-chancellor SC Sharma extended unconditional apology for the unintended lapse on his part by enhancing the intake in the MEd courses.
