A gas cylinder delivery boy was left with a bleeding lip after two traffic policemen assaulted him at a signal on Friday in Baddrappa Layout junction near Big Bazaar on Hebbal Road.
Shivakumar M, a resident of Badrappa Layout, and employee of Matru Gas, was pedalling his way to deliver two cylinders around 12.30 pm. He stopped at Badrappa Layout junction as the signal had turned red. When it turned green, he started moving.
Two traffic policemen, who were following him on their Cheetah, asked him to stop and rammed his bicycle. Shivakumar explained he started moving only after the signal turned green. This infuriated the cops who slapped him.
A law and order policeman, who was passing by, stopped at the scene. He too started punching the boy on his face. And before the onlookers could gather around, the cops sped away, said a witness.
“I failed to notice the registration number of the motorcycle. See, my upper lip is bleeding,” said Shivakumar.
The public acted fast and alerted the Kodigehalli police. The traffic cops involved in the assault were identified as Narasappa and Jagannath Gowda, he said. “I have filed a complaint with Hebbal traffic police station,” he added. But Hebbal traffic police said Narasappa and Jagannath did not assault him.
