The police have clamped prohibitory order under Section 144 of the CrPC around Parappana Agrahara Central Jail, where Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa is set to appear before a special court on Thursday.

The move is aimed at preventing anti-social elements from disrupting the proceedings.

Police commissioner BG Jyothi Prakash Mirji said Jayalalithaa would be provided Z+ category security during her visit. “We’ve clamped the prohibitory order in a 500-metre radius surrounding the central jail as a safety measure. We’ve deployed enough policemen for her security but I can’t disclose their exact number from the security point of view,” Mirji said.

Section 144 would remain till Thursday evening and it might be extended if needed, he said.

A police source said that more than 1,000 policemen, including additional commissioner of police, joint commissioner of police, deputy commissioners of police, assistant commissioners of police, police inspectors and other subordinates, have been deployed at Parappana Agrahara for the security of the dignitary.Jayalalithaa is expected to arrive at the HAL airport around 10 am by a special flight or chopper. She will reach the court before 11 am, when the hearing begins.

Sufficient police personnel have been deployed at the airport and along way to Parappana Agrahara.

Ahead of her visit, a Tamil Nadu police team headed by inspector general of police (intelligence) Abash Kumar has landed in the city. The team will coordinate with the local police to provide security for Jayalalithaa. A National Security Guard team has also landed in the city.

The police will not allow entry of private vehicles to areas surrounding Parappana Agrahara from Wednesday night till Jayalalithaa leaves the court. They have installed CCTV cameras in areas surrounding the court.
