Terror suspects’ custody increased

The first additional chief metropolitan court on Thursday extended the police custody of two of the 14 persons  arrested last month with suspected links to terror outfits Lashkar-e-Taiba and HuJI from Hubli and Bangalore. The  court remanded 11 other accused to judicial custody.

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths, who produced 13 of the 14 accused, sought extension of custody of the  two—Mohammed Akram (accused number 7) from Nanded and Obaidulla (accused number 14) from  Hyderabad—for three more days as more investigation need to be done to ascertain the terror module they allegedly belong to.

“The accused have forgotten the passwords of the email accounts and hence more time is needed to access and verify the contents,” said assistant commissioner of police KN Jitendranath, the investigating officer of the case.

Court withholds judgment in corruption case
The Lokayukta court on Thursday withheld judgment  in a case against the superintendent of police (SP) PK Shivashankar, wherein he is accused of leaking information to the deputy commissioner MK Aiyappa in a corruption case.

The petitioner Srinivas told the court that he had visited the Lokayukta police to file a against Aiyappa for taking bribe through his clerk. However, the Lokayukta police asked him to come up with more solid evidence to register a complaint.  Srinivas went back without filing a complaint.

Shivashankar allegedly alerted Aiyappa, who became more careful and escaped getting caught.  After listening to the arguments, the court withheld the judgment.

Police may seek extension of Buela’s custody
Buela M Sam, who was taken into custody for entering the Isro premises, breaching security norms, has been interrogated at an undisclosed place along with a Kollam-based photo studio owner who allegedly made the  fake id card for her and another person who informed her about a seminar at Isro. Buela’s custody will end on Friday and the police may seek the court’s permission to extend the custody. Joint commissioner of police (crime-east) B Dayananda said they were not sure if she is suffering  from mental illness.

“If the medical report proves that she is normal, then the  direction of the investigation will change and we will have to go to Kerala for further investigation,” said an  investigating
officer.
