Steer clear of Hosur Road near Nimhans

Do you often take the Hosur Road, in front of the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (Nimhans)?  Well, here are some pointers to help you plan your commute better: Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has started digging up the road to replace six old pipelines, and work is expected to continue for a couple of weeks.

Half-way into the BWSSB’s work, the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) will start work on the same stretch. So if you often take the stretch from Dairy Circle to Lakkasandra, it would be wise to plan an alternative route for about a month.

BWSSB started its work in the area on Tuesday morning. The KPTCL is expected to start work on the same spot soon. Sources said that a new 220 kv station has been planned on the spot, and work on laying the cables is expected to take about a week.

On Thursday, BWSSB chairman PB Ramamurthy visited the spot to inspect progress in work. “We are replacing pipes over 3 km. Work will be carried out in six phases. We have put seven JCBs in place, with more than 35 men at work. We expect to finish in about 20 days. That is the time we have sought from the traffic police,” said Ramamurthy.

M Udaya Shankar, corporator of Siddapura ward said that since there is even more work to happen on the road, once the BWSSB completes the laying of new pipes, repairs on the road will not be undertaken until the KPTCL completes its work. “We have been informed that KPTCL will start work on the road once the BWSSB starts laying pipes. Only after KPTCL finishes its work will we be asphalting the road,” said Udaya Shankar.

“This stretch is among the worst of Bangalore’s roads. Thankfully, after all the work is done, we can expect the flooding of the road to be taken care of. The old pipes used to leak and the roads were always wet,” said Sumit Roy, a daily commuter through Lakkasandra.

Meanwhile, traffic police have already put up boards to warn commuters. Ahead of the Dairy Circle flyover and on Wilson Garden Road, traffic will be re-routed. Heavy traffic flow towards Kormanagala, Bannerghatta and Electronics City will be hampered, as commuters will have to take the inner, narrower roads to these areas.

Roads through Wilson Garden 10th Cross and Tilaknagar open towards Bannerghatta. Vehicles flowing in the other direction can take roads through Adugodi to reach Koramanagala and Hosur.
