Though Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) authorities said it was a technical glitch at Sarakki Station, residents have complained that the power shut-down was rather long.

“There was a technical glitch at Sarakki Station which took around 55 minutes to rectify. Banashankari, Jayanagar, Shanti Nagar and surrounding areas have had a 45 to 50 minute power shut-down,” said a Bescom official on condition of anonymity.

Another Bescom official said the intermittent power failure in some areas was due to a local problem, mostly voltage fluctuations.

“Local issues can happen due to fluctuations (in current flow) in buildings,” said Ashok Angadi, chief engineer, Bescom.

Bangalore has been witnessing intermittent power cuts though they have been limited to a few hours. The Bescom officials say the power cuts are being caused by local problems, which are not likely to happen in the future.

“Whenever there is a major power shutdown, we record the details such as: how many minutes did the shut down last and what the glitch was,” said a Bescom official.
