Two students arrested in connection with the March 15 road rage brawl are likely to be expelled from their college.
Two students arrested in connection with the March 15 road rage brawl are likely to be expelled from their college. The principal of Jain College said on Thursday that a decision on expelling Akhil Joshy, 20, and Mohammed Hashim, 19, would be taken after meeting the boys’ parents.
The yobs — teenage hooligans — were facing criminal charges, including attempt to murder, after Hashim stabbed a 33-year-old contractor, Sumith Shankar.
“We are yet to issue any orders. The matter will be discussed with their parents. We have asked them to meet us. The decision on whether to remove them from the college will be taken only after we hold a discussion with the parents,” college principal Dinesh Nilkant said.
The principal added that the boys had no earlier history of misbehaviour. A lecturer, however, said the students did not attend classes regularly. “The boys were not regular to college. They showed little interest in their studies,” he said.
Another faculty member said the college was not, in any way, responsible for the road rage incident, which occurred on Bridage Road, and not on campus.
The Ashoknagar police said they had not issued any notice to Jain College to take action against the students.
Meanwhile, the injured man has been under intensive care. “He is still in the ICU. The doctors will decide on shifting him to a ward only on Friday,” N Chandrahas, Shankar’s cousin, who was present during the brawl, said.
