Emphasising the need to have a separate Act for the BBMP, he said the need of the hour was to have a detailed discussion on this issue in the interest of one crore population in Bangalore.
MK Gunasekhar, leader of the opposition in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Council, on Monday urged mayor D Venkatesha Murthy to convey a special meeting of the BBMP to discuss various issues that require immediate attention.
Speaking to mediapersons, Gunasekhar said the Comptroller and Auditor General’s Report on Local Bodies had highlighted irregularities that had taken place in the BBMP. “I want the mayor to convey special meeting of the BBMP to discuss the financial irregularities that took place in 2008. I want the BBMP Council to also discuss the delay in releasing the financial audit reports for 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13,’’ Gunasekhar said.
Emphasising the need to have a separate Act for the BBMP, he said the need of the hour was to have a detailed discussion on this issue in the interest of one crore population in the city. “I want the Mayor to convey a special meeting to discuss measures to be taken up for filling up potholes to avoid inconvenience to motorists during the monsoon,” he said.
Stating that the BBMP had to incur losses due to some officials in the town planning department being on deputation, he said the BMBP special meeting should discuss how to avoid such financial losses.
Coming down heavily on the delay in distributing uniforms and sweaters for students studying in BBMP schools, he said: “Convincing students to join BBMP schools itself has become a difficult task. It will be more difficult for teachers to convince students to join BBMP schools if the Palike delays distribution of books and uniforms,” he said.
