NTPC’s power project in Karnataka gets MoEF’s nod
The board of directors recently cleared investment proposal to the tune of Rs15,166 crore for setting up the project, NTPC said.
State-owned power producer NTPC on Thursday said that has received the ministry of environment and forests (MoEF) clearance for its Kudgi Super Thermal Power Project Stage-I (3x800 MW) that is being set up in Bijapur district.The board of directors recently cleared investment proposal to the tune of Rs15,166 crore for setting up the project, NTPC said. The company said it would be soon starting work at the plant site. NTPC has sourced the 800 MW units through bulk-tendering process, it said.The plant at Kudgi will have a total installed capacity of 4,000 MW. Its Phase 1 will have the capacity of 2,400 MW.“The project will have super critical boilers and latest technology. Coal requirement will be met from NTPC’s own mine at Pakhri Barwadi in Jharkhand,” the statement said.Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board recently handed over 1923 acres required for the main plant. Land acquisition for the rest 1,600 acres is in progress.To meet the water requirement, Karnataka Government has sanctioned 5.2 TMC of water per annum from Almatti Dam, which is 18km from the plant site, it said.The power to be generated from this project would be supplied to Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry.
