First VCs and now registrars, after withdrawing syndicate members nominated by the previous BJP government in various universities, now the Congress government is all set to change the registrars of most of the state’s universities.

A detailed letter has been sent to all the VCs asking them to send a list of 10 senior professors who are eligible to handle the university administration and examination system. In the letter, it has been clearly mentioned that the names which the vice chancellors will suggest should be ready to work under the inter-university transfer system immediately.

By sending this letter to VCs of all the state universities, the state government has made it clear that it will not entertain any candidates who were appointed with recommendations from political leaders. “We have asked the VCs to send the list because they are the ones who will have to work with the newly appointed registrars,” said an official source from the Higher Education department on condition of anonymity.

However, when contacted, VC of Bangalore University, B Thimme Gowda, said that he had not received any such letters so far from the government. “As of now, I have not received any communication from the government regarding this new decision. If the letter has been dispatched today (Tuesday), I need to check with my office,” he said. The officials in the department also added that, the are looking forward to the replies from the VCs, within 10 days.
