Never-ending transfers hit Karnataka staff

Three months after the transfer season for the Karnataka government staff ends, employees were still being posted out.

“The process of transferring government employees was to be completed within May–June. It was then extended to July 31 and again to August 31. But the employees are being transferred even in September,’’ said L Byrappa, president of the Karnataka state government employees’ association.

Addressing the media here on Wednesday, Byrappa said the continuing “indiscriminate” transfer of government employees had affected their morale and efficiency.

The demand of the employees for a permanent policy on transfer was pending for many years, he said.

Byrappa also demanded that the state government pay salaries to its staff on par with the central government employees.

“There are more than one lakh vacancies at various government departments. It has become difficult for the existing employees to provide good governance for the public. I request the chief minister to fill up the vacancies as early as possible,’’ he said.

Byrappa said the employees’ association planned to organise a workshop on Saturday on the implementation of Sakaala and other government schemes.

“The workshop will be inaugurated by Lokayukta Justice Y Bhaskar Rao. Commissioner of information commission D Thangaraj and principal secretary of Horticulture Department Shankaralinge Gowda will attend the workshop,’’ he said.
