The incident came to light when the dwellers of Sai Palace lodge started complaining of foul smell emerging from one of the rooms. Suspecting that something was wrong, the lodge staff immediately informed the police who rushed to the spot.

They opened the door only to find the decomposed body of the youth tied to a bathroom ventilator.

According to statements made by lodge in-charge Irshad Babu, three young men aged about 25 checked in on July 25. They had paid an advance of Rs1,000. The men had told him that they were from Mumbai and were in town to attend a job interview.

However, the men did not provide any ID proof. One man, however, gave his name as Fayazuddin Sheik and provided a Navi Mumbai address.

Police said the killers had bound the victim’s legs and hands and hanged him to the ventilator in the bathroom.

There were no blood injuries on his body. “We are not sure how he was murdered. The autopsy report will reveal the truth. We suspect that the killers smothered him and then hanged him to the ventilator,” an investigative officer said.

The miscreants fled the scene by locking the door from outside. “The youth looks well educated,” the police said.

A murder case has been registered and a team has been formed and sent to Mumbai to nab the culprits.

“We have a definite clue about the case. We are investigating the case based on that clue,” said deputy commissioner of police (south-east) Dr PS Harsha, refusing to divulge further information.
