More time to probe PGET malpractices

The high court on Wednesday granted the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) an extended time till November 1to investigate the alleged malpractices in post-graduate entrance examination (PGET) for medical courses and submit the report before it. CID had on Tuesday filed an application before the high court seeking three more months’ time to investigate the case.

NS Megharikh, inspector general of police, CID, and investigation officer, submitted in the application that the department had secured OMR sheet of the suspected candidates and sent it to central forensic science laboratory in Hyderabad. The report is awaited.

Certain digital information has to be retrieved and analysed from the seized electronic gadgets like pen drive, hard disc, laptops, he submitted.

Investigation was at the advanced stage and required some more time, submitted Megharikh.

Vinod Karjgi, Haridattatreya Mantagni, Dhananjay and others had filed a petition in the high court, questioning the deletion of their names from the merit list, without offering them an opportunity to bring forth their opinion.

Submitting that the move was illegal, the petitioners had sought permission to attend to the counselling.

The high court then directed CID to hold a fresh inquiry into the malpractices in the post-graduate medical entrance exam and directed Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences to conduct a fresh counselling for all the eligible candidates in three months' time.
